I am in the process of buying a new 2011 fit base model. The business manager explained that it had a OEM anti-theft system installed but that it would cost me $499.00 to keep it, otherwise they would uninstall it. I declined to pay the $499.00. What I would like to know is - do they actually remove the anti-theft system or do they just leave it in the car and tell me it has been removed? How would I know? What is a good reasonably priced aftermarket anti-theft system? I've read about Ravelco and Lo-Jack. Any recommendations?

 

Forget about Ravelco and Lo-Jack.

Get an alarm system, any major brand: with shock sensor, glass breakage sensor, tilt sensor. Get Proximity if you want, I didn't. I got a paging system + remote start. Don't get it installed at BestBuy, pay good money for a good install.

 

Never pay a dime for an "extra." If Honda really put it in, then the dealer can't remove it. If Honda didn't put it in, it's junk and you won't want it.

 

I think you just bought $230 worth of add-on's installed for $500.

Lojack isn't a theft deterrent, it just helps you get your car back if it gets stolen. It's not an alarm system.

I had the same situation with my wife's Chrysler 300, had a "dealer alarm" and they said the same thing. just waited until I was in the final phase of the purchase and had them all worn down and told them "how about you just let me keep the alarm and I won't walk out the door" and they let me have it.

Both dealership installed alarms I have like that work pretty well, no false alarms from motorcycles, etc, go off when they're supposed to... idk.

I will second TrungLam's comment though, get a decent alarm and good install. Nobody want's to be "that guy" with the annoying car on the block with the alarm going off all the time. I have one of those on my block... it's on a Land Rover :facepalm:

EDIT: I got that package that K_C posted for $250 installed on the Fit, i'm glad my guy didn't rip me off too bad.

 

i think someone just got ripped off by the dealer but heck if you're happy with your purchase who cares.

No they wouldn't remove it, because it was never installed in the first place.

 

I had a LoJack on my motorcycle and it worked decently, but it was definatly not worth the money. Plus, LoJack is in a class-action lawsuit for basically false advertising and I am stuck in that joyous situation. It's great for piece of mind but they won't notify you for at least 15 minutes and it only "detects" where your car is. Don't get a LoJack is where I am getting at. Car alarm with gps would be much better and the warranty wouldn't last a year. /: just my opinion from personal experience.

 

Wondering if you have any advice on Matrix 1x Security System for the 2012 Honda Fit? Frys recommended this one for $250 including the labor. Then they recommend a Back Up Battery for $40 plus installation which totals $60. Add the trunk and hood protection, ea. for $25 and the total comes to $360 plus tax. Lifetime warranty on the control unit/brain and installation of the alarm system.
