Those companies intentionally underestimate the capacities of their products, to cover their assets in case some moron tries to haul 55 gallons of pesticide back there. Couple of bikes, no problem.
If anything, IF you're having a custom hitch made, you could use solid bar instead of tubing, or either a heavier-wall tubing, for the inner slide section. Just a thought. Good luck!
