Now that k mounts are avalible and now everyone wants to know how to do a k swap and need info. I thought might as well post a thread about all of the k engines.

Hybrids:
most k series parts are interchangeable so in no time k hybrids have been created shortly after the engies where introduced the most common would be k24 bottom endfrom a crv, accord, element and use the top end from a k20a, k20z1,etc. result poor mans k24a2 why do this because the a2 is not that easy to find compared to other the k24's and the a2 is the most powerful of the n/a k engines the head should bolt up to the block with little problem.

Personal discovery:
while the k23 is the most powerful of the k engines it's so different that it needs its own thread to explain the engine. But here the short version.
1) completly different mounting point's
2) need k trans can't just bolt up to the k23 would need a adaptor plate
3) v-tec only on the intake side (i don't know why)
But with these down sides there are a few up sides
1)strongest internal parts
2)turbo (maxes out at 13.5 and spools up very quickly due to its design)
3) reinforced block

Now to the discovery part. Most people you ask they would say that the k23 is a destroked k24 but if you look at the specs the k23 just has a 1mm decrease in bore. So what. So, while the k23 block can't fit a k24 can. so Get you could get your hands on a k24 short block and have it sleved to accomedate the smaller pistons and just replace the internals of the k24 with the stronger parts of the k23. put a k20a head on there and bolt the stock turbo system from the k23 and throw the super frakenstein engine into any honda you can stuff a k into that could hit 300hp with little problem and have torque everywhere. But this is just theortical i have not tried this but i hope this could inspire someone to do such a engine set-up and get some real power that any honda fan could be proud of.

While it is indeed the same K20A found in the FD2, Honda sells this as a street car, albeit modified. I'm looking into whether these mods can be purchased seperately, but it's not looking too good...



And before people get excited about swapping in an FD2's engine, consider something else. The engine retails for $8500 right now and the harness is completely useless and will not swap into any other Honda I can think of that's not an 06+ Civic.

i beg to differ. i garentee you send that harness to hasport or any other company that do swaps and they'll have it in any honda and running given a week or 2.

You should take a look at the system prior to making guarantees...



...Hondata's been working on it for longer than "a week or two"....

The new Civic Si's 06-07's, anyone know why their motors are built in the US?
I noticed that basically the WHOLE car is US/Canada. Probably why they arent fast. :-X

I would stay away from that motor. 05-06 RSX-S is the motor to get.
If you want decent power with quick gears, RSX base engine (K20A3) with 05-06 Type-S trans. I myself would do a TSX motor (K24A2) and a 05-06 Type-S trans. Mmmmmhm, power and torque. ;)

I have a K20Z3 coming down to the yard either tomorrow or Sunday for parts and testing. I also have an R18A1 and a K24A2. Kinda just lucked into them.

I personally would rather have a K20/K24 with a K20A-R tranny and the TSX 6th speed. It's essentially the same as the K20Z3, but the VSS is in a completely different spot than it is on the A2/A3, so as far as we know, it doesn't bolt directly to any of the K motors. Sucks. It'd be easier to source.

The JDM Civics are built in Canada and exported to Japan. That's why they're not fast either. ;)

I'm trying to get my hands on that Mugen RR program though.

Differences between k20a's.
DC5 k20a has better exhaust manifold than EP3 K20a thats why it makes 5 hp more. Accord Euro R has RBC intake manifold (same as found in 06+ Civic Si) versus EP3's and DC5's PRC intake mani. Euro R's oil pump is also is equipped with balancer shafts which make engine smoother but rob some hp.

Differences between K20A3's.
EP3 K20A3 comes with PRB intake manifold from RSX-S K20A2. Base RSX k20a3 on the other hand has plastic intake manifold. EP3 has oil pump that is equipped with balancer shafts which make engine smoother but rob some hp. DC5 k20a3 has same oil pump as RSX-s K20A2 and it is therefore more suitable for high revs. Although both cars come with 5 speed manual final drives are different in two cars. EP3 has 4.7 fd and DC5 comes with 4.3 fd. This makes EP3 have shorter gear ratio. EP3's intake manifold makes enigne more suitable for mods and gains are bigger, but on paper it makes less low end tq, that is why there is 9 lb-ft difference between two cars.
