it depends. There are many factors including store, area, time of year, how much the salesman works. Most of my guys in the internet dept avg. anywhere from 15-25 cars/mo

Every dealership has a different pay plan... but in most cases... no.

floor salesman sell about 10 to 15 a month. in jersey a flat pays 75 dollars per car most places. new car salesman dont make alot of money in some areas. most customers think that we are liars and hide everything from them which is not true. i work for a very large dealer network on the east cost and we have stores in cali as well. we show our customers what are invoice is and they still think we make money selling them the car at that amount. are payplan here you get paid on 20% gross profit so for a salesman to make money you need to make at least 1000 dollars on a car to get 200 dollar pay on a sale. and on a fit the only way to make money is on accessories. their is only a 400 to 500 dollar gap from invoice to msrp on these cars and maybe jdmchris can help me on this but holdback has got to be next to nothing on these cars. used cars is where the money is at, most people will get ripped off on a used car and not know it because they dont know what the dealership paid for the car. im all for giving a good deal but salesman gotta eat too.

Floor salesmen like myself over here average around 10-12 units a month. Normally closer to 15-17, but it's been reaaally slow.

Sadly, everything said here is pretty true. Tough life :[ </whine>

1200 a month? Ya right. I make 4000 a month delivering pizza, and you only make 1200? And then you pay tax on top of that. Hope you deliver pizza in the evenings.

highest paid pizza boy ive ever heard of. i guess there's alot of fat asses where u live. oh and in jersey here i average anywhere from 3000 to 6000 per month in my first year. from march to august we do really well. a carreer in pizza transport is not something id wanna tell any potential future ex mrs shakey that i do for a living. usually at honda we have to sell volume because a large majority of our customers are cheap asses who will drive to 7 different dealerships to save 100 dollars more than the next one. while sales managers drop there pants to make people happy. dont get me started on that topic...

who wouldn't drive to a different dealership to save a hundred bucks? if i can get the same thing cheaper somewhere else then i''d do it too. if i were rich then maybe my time would literally be worth more than that hundred bucks, but as of right now i'm in college and $100 is a lotta money haha

I guess what we're saying is, price should not be the only important factor when shopping for a car. But unfortunately, many shoppers' minds shut off around that topic.

Well throw in a few pole dancing strippers and a cold beer and perhaps I'd be willing to pay the extra 100 bucks.

yeah if $100 is alot of money why would you not be satisfied with that as a discount. any car i discount only $100 to $300 customers look at you like you have 3 heads like how dare you try and earn a living. all im saying is cut car salesman a damn break everyone thinks we are liars but dont know the half of what we have to deal with.

I'd rather have that and just leave the cars out of it at that point.

We're making more money on oil filters in the parts shop than we are on our cars, lol
