What I mean about the sides is don't fully tighten one side then the other. Tighten one side a bit. Then tighten the other side a bit. Then go back to the first side and tighten a bit more. Then change sides tighten a bit more and so on until they are both tightened / torqued to 33-34lbs.

Yes put rubber/foam/soft stuff between anywhere where there is metal to metal contact to prevent noise.

I found the bar itself touched the top of the towers slightly creating a resonance throughout the bar. Following the same simple principal I just stuck a bit of foam under the bar itself on each end where it meets the top of strut towers. Noise gone.
