I was doing a google image search on 2004 Honda Fits to check out what the old steering wheel looked like and I found this shot. There seems to be a storage compartment underneath the steering wheel? Looks interesting, anyone seen one of these in person???

I am curious if all years of the first gen. RHD Fit have this compartment. Perhaps it is incompatible with the car design when it is mirrored to LHD. Our small compartment on the access panel for the fuse box seems to be precisely where this larger compartment is located vertically. Maybe they just had to redesign that part of the dash for the fuse box access? Does anyone know if the fusebox is on the passenger side for RHD?
Ive got that 'storage compartment', but then Ive also got a RHD, and yes I believe the fuse box is there (I'll double check next time I go for a drive)

I'm not really sure which I would prefer. It seems that dashboard design may have a smaller glove compartment... obviously it'd be very expensive to try and swap this piece into a USDM Fit and not really worth it. What a shame.

That won't stop those folks who's cars have to be JDM like a F***, yo. I wonder every day about paying 10 times actual cost just to get a part that's only available in Japan. $500 for tail lights? Seriously. If there's $20 in them, I'll eat my shorts.
That said, I'd like to have it on my USDM Fit.

Many in Manila have tried to make the USDM Fit cluster work with the PHDM Jazz and were unsuccessful. Don't know if that will be the same case for the PHDM cluster. Personally I like the blue light of the USDM compared to the Orange light of the PHDM.
My only concern, if I do this, is how to transfer the VIN plate to the JDM dashboard.
On many of the cars I've worked on, the VIN tag is riveted to a tab that sticks out from the firewall and not actually attached to the dash. Not sure if this is true of the Fit because I'm inside and don't feel like getting dressed to go check, but...

As others have mentioned, over here in the Philippines we got that lower "pocket" on both sides of the dashboard, below the level of the steering column. It's not necessarily an RHD-specific thing because LHD is the legal requirement/norm here too.
As for the fusebox, since our steering wheels are on the left, it's to the lower left of the driver.
Yes this storage compartment is normal in the UK too but I actually hate it as it hits my knees and would probably break my legs in a front end crash not ideal!
