Check Engine Light on for Low Oil?

Check Engine Light on for Low Oil?

My 08 Fit has 17,000 miles on it. Last night I left the car idling for a while to heat the car up to cure some fiberglass. When I came back to the car, the check engine light was on and the mileage display was showing the oil life at 15%. It had been showing miles when I left the car. When I changed the display back to miles, the check engine light went away. So my question is: does 15% oil life cause the check engine light to come on? I usually replace the oil at 20% life so I have not encountered this before. If it truly was a real check engine light, then I will be upset cause it went away and I have nothing to show the dealer.

If I may ask, what was the icon that you were seeing? Was it like a wrench? I'm pretty sure that it was just reminding you that you should get an oil change with other things that Honda recommends. Once the MM tells you you're at 15% that service light or wrench light comes on and will disappear if you change the display to mileage, gas mileage etc. The service light will remain no matter what you do when it hits 0% oil life I think. Read your Owner's Manual, it will give you a more thorough explanation. Hope this helps.

The check engine light is the outline of the engine. If you saw that, the next questionis were you working on the car? In some instances disconnecting certain plugs will trip the light, when you plug it back in the ECU will cycle,see that the connection has been restored and turn off the light. When i changed my hazard swith i tripped the light and then it reset the next time the vehicle was started.

As the two above. Plus, don't confuse oil level with oil life. If you're wondering about oil level, check the dipstick.

as they said, if it's a wrench, don't worry. Just change the oil. If it's an engine, then have the code read, or take it in.
