My engine just died while in park........
I'll lay out the facts, maybe someone has had this problem or has heard of it. I'll be calling a tow truck soon to take it to the dealer I guess.
08 Fit Sport Automatic
25,000 miles on it
have not had any issues with it, well minor problem with my fresh vs. recycle air conditioning switch on the dash, I get super low air flow when it's switched to one of them, forgot which, will get that serviced at next oil change (or this when I take it in).
So, here's what happened.
Drove home, like 25 minutes, pulled up to my mailbox in my cul-de-sac.
Put the car in park, reached out my window to grab mail.
Car putters and dies.
End of story.
Now, when I try to start it up it fully cranks, lights are all on, everything is powered up, the starter goes, everything happens like it's going to start but it just doesn't catch.
I tried this for maybe 6 or 7 turns. Nothing.
I go back outside later and try a jump. It starts......
It starts running VERY rough for about 15 seconds.
Then it dies again and will not start, yet it does turn over fine just like before.
When it was running very rough, the car was in park, with the P for park light lit.
The kicker is that I saw the D for drive flashing below the P for park!
Very werid.
Another twist. I may have left my overhead light on last night. I'm not sure. I looked outside at my car by my mailbox about 20 minutes after I came in the first time after it stalled. I noticed the overhead light was on. It wasn't dark when I drove home so I don't know when I turned it on. Last night? At work today? Though why would I have.
Regardless, with a jump it should have started if the light being left on was a problem.
Is it possible to flood the engine these days? When I went to start it again after it stalled by the mail box I hit the gas a few times. Not sure why....habit...
Any ideas?
