Losing coolant?

My gf bought a salvaged 2007 Fit Sport with 24K miles on it.

The car was hit in the right front corner and based on the accident pictures, the damages were minor - bumper mostly.

When I opened the radiator cap at the car lot on Sep 12, the filler neck had no coolant near the top. It took about 3/4 of a cup of coolant to reach the top.

Then 400 miles later the level was down by a half of cup again. This time I added it and also discovered that the overflow tank's tube was disconnected (the rubber tube that goes to the bottom of it). So I reconnected it and topped both the radiator and the expansion canister. The radiator took 1/2 of cup.

Then a week later I drained the radiator and refilled it with fresh honda coolant.

Today the level is again low so that I could not see any coolant in the radiator if looking down from the filler neck. The expansion canister's level possibly went down by an inch or two, but that's not certain.

Is it normal not to have the level at the top of the filler neck?

the engine does have some sort of dust area as if there was some leak which was slow and developed a while ago. It's on the front of the engine... seems like below the intake manifold?

Anything there that could be leaking?

Before trying to clean everything up and watch the level more carefully, I thought I would ask for some ideas...

Thanks in advance...

keep adding more honda coolant for another 3-4 cycles as needed. could be that there's air in the system.

after 3-4 cycles and you're still observe low fluid level, get a pressure check done. you probably DO have a leak somewhere then.
