Hello, new guy question
I don't have a FIT yet, but am looking hard at a pre owned. It fits my needs very well. I would be putting less than 8K per year.(just to the lawn and garden.etc)
Its got 100,000 now and is very clean.(2007)
Can you see it going say 140,000 mi without major problems?
Thanks

What do you mean just to the lawn and garden? Does that mean you'll use it to purchase and haul stuff for your lawn and garden needs? We need more info as des said.

Sorry for the fogginess.
The certain car is a FIT, as I posted on my first line. To clarify I am looking at a 2007 FIT.
My question is what preceded the question mark.
"Can you see it going say 140,000 mi without major problems?"
To clarify, it's an old car with 100000 mi, in your experience, do you think it will hold up another 40000 mi without major problems.
I will not be driving it hard, less than 8000mi a year.

So the basic question I got out of your post is; "The Fit I'm looking at has 100K miles, I'm wondering if it will last longer"
and my answer to that will be; Yes. It will. Many Fit's are pushing over 200k on the clock, keep up with regular maintenance and it will keep on going without a problem. There are some issues like coil packs (causing misfires, rough idle, loss of power), and valve adjustment (almost same symptoms as coil packs) - but other than that it's trouble-free.
Coil packs can easily be replaced - plug and play.

Yeah the more details the better.
In general Honda motors go a long way. You have to keep up on the basic services in the correct intervals. At 100K on the engine you're looking at possible replacing:
Spark plugs
Water pump
Fluid change (radiator and transmission)
Radiator hoses
Belts
Again mostly what needs to be done. Keep in mind OE parts do not last forever. All moving parts (brakes, struts, tires, etc) wear in time.
But the short answer is you shouldn't have any major issues with the vehicle.

Belts are usually fine at 100k as well.

Water pumps are typically replaced when a timing belt is done on older Honda's. Since the fit has a timing chain it's a little different. Water pump life can vary depending on use.
I wouldn't trust a serpentine belt for 100K. It's an I expense replace and easy DIY. The rubber in drive belts with the engine heat only last so long and crack. This is put of basic maintenance on a vehicle such as hose and fluid replacement. Some of these have longer intervals. 30/60/90k etc.
