Before I pull the trigger (high mileage fit)

I'm very close to buying a 2007 Sport that has 145k miles on it. It appeared to have been meticulously cared for with services from the dealer ever 3 months like clock work. I'm very hesitant however as they want $7999 for it. It looks like from reading these forums that these Fits can last forever but I'm still very leery. Everything seemed great on it except it has a horrible ticking noise from the engine bay which I recorded below. Sadly it was VERY windy as you can hear. But is that sound something I should be concerned with? The salesman said "these newer hondas have super loud injectors" I have a 2003 Accord and 2000 Prelude and neither sound like that at all.
Thank you for any insight into the matter.

Also: In the list of services the dealer did to the car post trade-in, pre-sale..... valve adjustment and spark plugs replacement are listed.

Oh, that's normal. It's the injectors, they tick quite a bit. It sounds a bit louder than usual in your video but that's because you have a sensitive mic and the hood's open.

The noise should be a lot less noticeable with the hood closed.

I'll record my engine bay tomorrow and post, see how it sounds cause I've forgotten myself, lol.

I just sold my 08 Base with 80k miles for $7000.

7999 is an asinine price for one with double the miles.

With close to $8,000, you can do better in finding a lower mileage Fit (say max. 100k or less) in similar condition. Be patient and shop outside your area. Use the internet like Cars.com, Craigslist etc.........(posted price are very negotiable)

Totally agree. Pre-sold my '08 GD A/T for $6,795 (to a relative) w/ 150k+ (eventually, now at 148k and rising).

I just bought my 07 Fit Sport 143k for $6450 from a dealer that doesn't budge very much. Look up KBB for the car and the average purchase price and do not spend a penny above middle. Also, pay no more than $1250 above wholesale price (not listed on KBB, but a bank and dealer know this amount).

My engine makes the same exact sounds. It's tab great for the past month I've had it.

They too wanted 7999 for it, but obviously they're banking on the Honda name to jack the price up. I offered 6k, and barely budged by a couple hundred every counter offer.

I'm not looking to spend more than 7 on this one. I've been shopping around for quite some time on Fits. My max is 9k and for this budget I'm finding I can only buy a Base with 110kish (which is missing way too many things I want), or a Sport with 110kish that is cosmetically beat to hell. I'm hoping that with this I can save a couple thousand get a cosmetically perfect car and hope that legendary fit reliability holds up in my favor :-)

I paid $6500 for my 2007 sport/auto with 94,000 miles from a private owner. It had not been taken care of like the one you are looking at. So far I have put in $600 to get all the fluids swapped out and the valves adjusted. So that takes me to $7100. Some day, hopefully not for many 10s of thousands of miles more, I'll need the expensive coil packs and plugs. So if only the plugs were done and not the coil packs on the car you are looking at I would not offer more than $7000 given it has 50,000 more miles than when I bought my car. Even for that $7000 the engine bay better look nice and dry with all the fluids looking fresh. My only caveat would be if all the stuts/shocks and coil packs had also been replaced and the tires were in excellent shape and going to last 2-3 more years. Then I would consider their price reasonable.

Assuming very good condition, the private party kbb price should be much closer to $6k for the high mile fit in the first post. He's asking what a dealership would charge, lol.

I shopped around a lot and shopped HARD.. and played hard ball with people and dealers. I picked up a 07 Fit Sport manual for $6200 pre-TTT at a dealer.. it had 132k, never wrecked, clean title, only two owners.. It has no door dings or dents.. but the paint is kind of rough but still shiny overall. The interior, likewise, mostly decent but needs a good cleaning and the back area was definately used.. most of the plastics are scratched up a lot. The engine runs perfect (so far) and last tank I got 37 mpg with mostly city driving so i'd say it's in good shape. You can find good deals out there, I would probably pay 8k-9k for a PERFECT inside and out Fit but otherwise i'd pay less for a little bit of a fixer upper.

Also for 9-10k i've seen some very nice GD3s that were garage queens. I figure i'll spend less and have fun modding and restoring it back to garage status.

No way! There's no way your car is worth 6k right now with 116k.. It should be privately sold for 8 to 10k privately easy. And by the time at 140k, 3k? I'd buy it from you for that but it'll be worth a lot more :P

Seriously, if I can get almost the exact same car from a dealer for $6450, don't spend more than a couple hundred.

This car is from a honda dealer, not a private seller. The original owner bought it at that dealer and took it there every three months for the last seven years. I'm not super excited about paying $7k for a 145k car either but I have checked out about 7 others with 100 to 110k and theyve all been beat to shit and the dealers have wanted between and 10.

Why not buy privately?

Three years ago I bought an '07 Fit Sport with 123,000 miles in nice shape. Spent two hours poring over it in the dealers garage. Checked everything on my list. Took a half hour test drive. Negotiated down to $8650 for an Arizona rust free car. Drove it home 2300 miles to New York with no problems.

It now has 158,000 and I've done very little to it other than tires, plugs and battery (size group 26R is a HUGE improvement, 540 cold cranking amps vs. the puny factory 151R which only has 330 cca). 151R costs about $130 plus tax. I just paid $75 for a 26R at Walmart! Cranks over MUCH faster then when the factory battery was new.

Only had to make minor mods to the battery mounting to make this work. The majority on Fit Freak make a battery upgrade to size 51R but my measurements show there's not enough room between engine and the electical panel box. Didn't want to diddle around moving the elec. box. The 26R is several inches shorter, but wider. About the same ampacity. 26R is actually a little beefier.

Drilled a new battery clamp mounting hole in the rear lip of the tray about 1½" towards passenger side so the new mounting bar goes between the new batteries removable filler caps. Unlike the factory setup, now I can check electrolyte without removing battery holddown clamp. Made a new mounting bar from scrap aluminum about the size of your pinky finger. I used the orig. steel threaded vertical clamp rods. If the aluminum starts to corrode from battery vapors I will clean and spray the bar with Plasti Dip.

My advice would be don't worry about high mileage on a Fit if it's been well maintained. My car only uses a quart of synthetic oil every 12,000 miles. That's unreal oil consumption. Best of any car I've owned in 50 years. Still running original coil packs knock on wood. The sway bar link rubber boots are cracked but I can fix them with "Right Stuff" liquid rubber so they won't let winter road salt in which would quickly ruin the joint.
