Have I lost my mind here?? I used to think I wanted rid of my first gen because road noise was a bit too high and it was generally getting long in the tooth...so upgrade was the way to go, of course. I upgraded...and while I used to really love my gen 1...I just kinda like the gen2. I feel like it's a tank or something...it doesn't have that HOnda small car feel anymore like the gen1. Although I do think the gen1 was louder and had a generally rougher ride, perhaps I don't really care about that. I mean, these small Hondas should be high revving and loud.
The steering and throttle are the main things I miss...and for sure the Gen2 is quieter and likely smoother on the highway. But, am I making a mistake here? Do others genuinely prefer the gen1 having owned both?

I'd recommend giving it some time.
I think every vehicle has plus's and minuses.
Good and Bad...even between Generations.
Sometimes, after making a change, it's easy to start longing for what WAS familiar. At least give it a few months, if you haven't already.
If after a significant period of time, you still feel you want to go back?
Then go ahead.
Oddly, I went from Gen 2 to Gen 3 and have some of the same feelings. There ARE definitely things I liked about the Gen 2 Fit. But, there are also improvements with the Gen 3 that I would be hard pressed to want to give up. Now with about 6 months with my Gen 3, I don't think I'd want to go back.

When I first got my 2nd gen. Fit, I thought the rawness and the (perceived?) power of the 1st gen. was gone. But I don't think I would go back just because I don't buy used cars. And the 2nd gen. is not too shabby.
Good luck.
Good luck.

If you can afford it?
Why not be happy?
Also, if you can afford the possible increase in maintenance cost associated with driving an older vehicle.
But if those aren't issues?
Go For It.

yah...those aren't issues at all. I agree about the highway though...it gets blown around pretty darn easy.
THe other part of this is that I would want to put money into it. I would want to replace any parts that can get me closer to a brand new car feel. I believe some of the suspension bushings are key in that regard.
I may even tinker with some mods...like perhaps a short throw shifter, better front seat, ceramic tints and paint. I'd feel much better about modding out an older car...plus I just like it better.
