Many members wish to install aftermarket seats on their Fit, but are deterred due to the airbag light that will certainly appear in the gauge cluster. While some have attempted to install other OEM Honda seats with the hope of getting it to talk to their Fit's computer, what about those going aftermarket?

Then it hit me this morning. The JDM Honda Fit does not come standard with side seat airbags.

For many years, this feature has been an option. Even now, there are brand new Hondas sold in Japan that do not come with this safety feature, with the customer having the choice of ordering a vehicle with it.

This means that Honda is basically getting a regular Fit, installing a different model seat that has the airbag, in addition to a weight sensor and requisite wiring harness.

So if Honda can take a normal Fit and add the components needed for a side seat airbag to work, shouldn't it be possible to remove these same features?

We all know that in the world of car modifying, anything is possible if you have the technical knowhow, plus finances. I am not a technical wizard, but the odds are good that there is a member here with a ton of Honda knowledge that may be able to tackle this.

Perhaps looking at the JDM Fit wiring harness, diagram, etc, and then comparing it to a USDM Fit, or even a JDM Fit without the side seat airbag, would lead to a solution.
