Auto Dimming Rear View Mirror

Has anyone installed, or have links for, an auto-dimming rear view mirror?

My other vehicle has an autodim rearview mirror. My '09 fit has autodim, also. It's called Formula One Pinnacle 35% tint on the rear glass.

I have three of these (Fit, Forester, and Xterra), like them, recommend them. You can pick with or without compass, thermometer, and map lights. On a Fit you must glue a wedge to the windshield. Cipa DUAL-DISPLAY AUTO DIMMING MIRRORS : JC Whitney: Auto Parts & Accessories

I was told that there is an adapter to connect the Gentronics mirror to the stock honda mirror base. I haven t ordered it yet, but I'm still waiting for my Fit. I have one on my MDX and don't think I could to back to flicking the mirror. Also I want the Homelink instead of the garage door openers.

there no way it can be plug and play cause there is no wires.
you have to splice it in yourself. most likely to the map lights.

Having just done this, it depends on the model and what connectors you have at your fuse panel - but very likely yes. Check your fuse panel from those instructions prior to ordering.

The cabling routing will be very similar. I noticed many later Honda models have that 8 pin standard connector at the fuse panel which is often unused in the manuals and that connector seems to be designed for adding many accessories b/c that's where they connect in via a factory harnesses.

For these mirrors, that 8-ping plugs in w/ no problem. The rub is the 2nd connector in the harness depends on which mirror / harness / connector you need. I've seen 2 models, 1 for the CR-Z which has a 2nd connector as a 12 pin and the other for the Insight which has a 13 pin 2nd connector.

My 2010 Fit has the 13 pin 2nd connector.

That 2nd connection is so the mirror can get the +12 signal when the Auto is in reverse and "un-dim" the mirror automatically. You can plug in the 8 Pin w/o the 2nd connector but you get no backup un-dimming.

Bottom line, if you check your fuse panel for that 8-pin and verify that you have a 13-pin 2nd connector (see those instructions) then the "Insight Mirror" harness / kit should work. I cannot verify this 100% b/c I do not have the Insight Kit but from the instructions, it calls out the 13 pin connector.

Cheers.

I dislike the autodim mirrors. Doesn't work quickly or effectively. Plus, how difficult is it to raise your right hand to flick a simple lever?

Here's what I installed: Amazon.com: Gentex GENK21A Auto Dimming Mirror W/compass Temperature: Automotive

It's a great OEM quality mirror and the auto dim works flawlessly plus you get outside air temp. Gentex actually supplies OEM mirrors to car mfg's.

Install is quite simple, hers a good guide: https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/fit-...-homelink.html

The 21A has a temp sensor that I mounted behind the front license plate. Trick was running that back inside the cabin. I came in along the inside of the right quarter panel, from inside the engine bay, to the drivers door jamb then in through the connections from the side view mirror. Fish a stiff wire from inside the engine bay towards the door and you find it's a clear path.

Yeah. I was thinking about either the Insight or the CR-Z auto-dimming options.

but then I thought of this

Although most people say it works just fine.

Still undecided if I want to get the Honda auto-dimming, or just keep doing it manually and getting the spoon mirror cover (great reviews).

I would say it looks like the Gentex I posted here. It really is a first class mirror and no reason it wouldn't install on your Fit.

Auto-dimming mirror

Thanks, I'll give it a try. Honda dealer wants $130 to install so I may do it myself...
