How to change license plate lights?
#21
find replacement taillight lens here
yea i just changed mine... the type that only emit light on the side instead of all around... but i broke one of the clips of the light cover when sliding it to the right... used a little tooo much strength... so be careful of tat guys... but love how the light isnt too strong... i wonder if i can get a replacement cover?
First select Honda parts int he upper left, then input the make/model/year/etc of the car. Next select taillight-license light, and a picture will come up withe the parts and some numbers. In the grid below that, find the part that matches illustration no. 9. The part off the site I beleive, is 34101-S60-013. It might be available at http://hondapartsnow.com/ as well.
I'm sure other members will correct me if I'm wrong on the parts, but I just looked and found them there. Good luck to you, you're not the first or last Fit owner that will be snapping that piece.

You can try installing custom LED strips under your lid to light up your plate, thats what I did.

This is a pretty old thread. But it kept bubbling up to the top of my search results. So I'd thought I'd register and add what I ended up doing to solve this issue.
Turns out you can remove the bulbs from the inside of the boot.
There is two small clips to the right of the handle on the inside. Push the centre of both of clips in, then remove the handle and the whole interior of the boot comes off.
Then you can pull the bulbs through and replace them. Easy as pie.
Just thought it would be useful to add my answer here.
I just couldn't seem to get those plastic bits off from the outside. This way was easy peasy.
Hope this helps someone.

As a counterpoint, removing the inner cover on the hatch isn't that easy or without potential cost. There are little fasteners (green, orange, and white - all with a different shape / purpose) all over the place. These little fasteners can cost a $1-$2 each depending on color.
My inner cover was buzzing after adding a Tanabe exhaust, so I pulled it out with the intention of adding foam to any potential buzzy interface but that was years ago. I'll put it back on if I ever sell the car.
Adding LED license plate lights would be easy now.

I totally see how you could end up damaging something here
Mine is a GD1. So a first generation Honda Fit. Your picture looks almost identical, but the density/strength of clips could be different.
There appears to be about 6 white clips underneath which detached fairly easily, without much pulling at all. I simply slid my hand under the grey plastic.
I am still waiting for my replacement bulbs, so I may document a little and upload my experience here.
Your milage may vary of course.
Just noticed people having to replace the outer part, and when I did it, I felt as if I was about to break something.
