Navi Update... Worth it yet?

I got a letter in the mail from Honda stating that there is a new update available for our navigation system. I went to NAVTEQ - Maps for your Honda Navigation System and I am just seeing a list of cities that were added. Is it worth it for $185 to purchase this or should I wait until the next update? I am not seeing anything about any new POIs or updates to the navi system itself. Most of the road updates are in Canada and very few are anywhere that I would drive.

If anyone is interested for a limited time there is free 2 day shipping from Hondanavi.com.

If you don't ever plan on going to any of those cities, then I'd say just wait.

However, I wouldn't be surprised if next year, they tried to charge you for both updates

I got a postcard from Honda about the update. I don't think I'll buy it this year.

Or if you get like 10 people to go in on it.... Just mail the update disc around when you're done with it.

I thought Honda's DVD navigation was like other cars, where you have to keep the disc in the drive because it contains all the maps.

I think that $185 for a map update is insanely expensive (not that I even have nav).

You can buy a portable nav unit for less than this update.

It's all about integration. It is expensive, however, because there is nothing updated around my area. Seems like mostly Canada. I was hoping to atleast see updates to the Navi system itself like to fix the ipod connection issues, fix scrolling through songs, maybe fix the issue where I cannot see most of my songs on my thumbdrive because the names aren't loading. Thats what I was hoping for.

went to original posters link, checked it out. apparently the update is called:
2010 Turquoise DVD Map Update v6.81A

Im gonna see if i can find some torrent link or something. I am not gonna pay $185 for what google maps can do, neither am I gonna pay itunes .99cents for every song that fills my ipod.

I googled the file name, and it came up in several places, although you have to sign up for the permission to d/l.

Navigation DVD update

I bought Honda Navigation DVD 6.81A on eBay for $99.99 and I sold the old DVD for $57. The cost for update is $43. There is no reason to keep the old DVD.

There seems to be this bay where pirates always hang out. There is access there, but nobody is seeding it.

Do you think you copy the dvd's contents and do a rapidshare, or megaupload for us?

And yeah, i check google...cant find anything but torrents that charge. and idk if they even have them.

I got the same post card in the mail. $185 but then they try to sweeten the deal by saying Free Shipping! LOL! as if that's supposed to make me feel better about spending $185 on a frickin nav update. Ridiculous, I refuse to pay that kind of money. Normally I'm not up for illegally copying CD's/DVD's but in this case I'm ALL for it. I know the DVD has to be in the drive, and I'm be real curious to find out if it will work as a burned copy.

Tell you what, I would be willing to go in on this with a bunch of you, if we get enough people it wouldn't be too much. Then we could either burn copies and mail them or if someone has an ftp server they would host do it that way. I'm serious. If anyone is interested IM me. Even six people would lower the cost to $30 each. The more the lower it goes.

Please be optimistic. The copy that I bought from eBay is a genuine Honda Navigation DVD. It was removed from a brand new car that dropped from transporter during transportation. It came with VIN for verification.

well there are already some posters that have the dvd. i say why not have them copy it, and upload it with some free site. i mean this is a fit forum we are all friends. and i would imagine it working fine because i saw the site to order, they dont ask for any specific information besides the cars year and model. I doubt they would ask for specifics like VIN.
