Isn't GE code global?

Hi all..

Im from Istanbul Turkey.

Fit is sold under the name of Jazz here as many countries. New Jazz/Fit comes from Japan, UK and China ..

One friend has a 2009 jazz 1.34 vtec , it is a product of China. And its model code is GG3..

To my knowledge new jazz/fit code must be GE..GE6 for 1.34 and GE8 for 1.5 for example..

Cars from UK and Japan are GE coded, for example my car's VIN starts as JHMGE6 , but my friend's chinese version jazz is GG coded and VIN starts with LUCGG3.

Isnt this GE code global for new jazz/fit? . Or mustnt all the jazz/fits have the same model code on VIN..

Is it normal a manufacturer gives different codes for the same car produced in different countries?

PS: Hope my English is okay and this is the right section for this post..

Definitely the right section--and your English is perfect.

I'm not sure about the chassis code, but I'm interested to know as well--it seems really weird.

I did a search and came up with this Honda recalls GG2/GG3 Jazz VEHICLES---Germany total recall info

It looks like some of the Jazz were labeled as GG2/GG3. It also states that the country of origin is China and not Japan, maybe that is why? IDK.

Great topic.

Actually some of the GDs have the "GE" code stamped on their VINs. As far as I know, the last of these "mis-coded" GDs was the GE5, sold in Europe. (Wikipedia has a short list of these for reference.) The GE6 is the first code for the new-shape/current Fit.

As for the "GG" code...it probably has a little to do with where the car is constructed and where it's sold.

OP:
Would you have a photo of your car and its chassis code? No need to show the whole VIN, just the chassis code is enough.

Sure this is my Honda jazz. its a higher spec level car (called jazz fun here) having alloy wheels, fog lamps , panorama roof etc. You can see the only external mod that Ive done so far: The modulo performance style front grille.

This is my car's VIN

You can tell its a 2009 japan, Suzuka production. GE6 coded 1.34 vtec engined new shape jazz. 5dr MPV, manual transmission and EX trim level also..

This is my friend's jazz. Its a lower spec level car (called jazz joy) having no alloy wheels, no foglamps and no panorama roof etc.

And this is his car's VIN. You can tell its a 2009 China , Huangpu Guangzhou production. GG3 coded car. 5dr MPV manual transmission and LX,SE trim level..

I think this is weird. I have never seen anything like this before

lol

BTW, this is not a secret.
Eibach already has a prokit for GG coded Honda jazz.

I begin to wonder whether there is a difference between GE and GG coded cars despite their looking very much the same ?

Welcome. Interesting question. Mostly, I wonder where the "H" is. I think it designates Honda as the manufacturer. I guess these are not made by Honda.

Here's the VIN decoder from the service manual:

The manual also lists the GG2 and GG3 chassis codes but does not include them in the above decoder for some reason.

Great find!

From observation with most previous Hondas, the number after the two-letter chassis code usually designates an engine variant. (Only exceptions I know of so far are the CR-V and old Euro Accords, where the number became irrelevant and actually meant an entire chassis change.)

Since GG1 is already taken for the L12B1 engine, GG2 and GG3 would probably equate to the more ubiquitous L13Z1 and L15A7-engined cars from China. It's just a guess but I think it's pretty close.

Again great find

hi x-rayted
I thought that GE code is reserved for Fit and GG for Jazz only. I guess I was wrong.

I have Jazz 1,4l GG3 (comfort) and it was made in China also (LUCxxxxxxxxxxxxx).

Fit name is not use for USA market only . In Japan for example you have Fit also but it doesn't look like USA Fit, it looks like Jazz (shorter).

That's why I think GE6 could be code for either 1,4 Jazz or 1,3 Fit (not for USA market).

What is the difference between GE6 engine L13A and GG3 engine L13Z I don't have a clue.
