Most of engine wear is from startups when load is put on bearing until oil pressure builds up. You can easily increase motor life by installing a "oil Accumalator" system. prelubes engine before each startup for zero wear. Check "Moroso oil accumalator" for more information. Other companies male them also. They range from $200.00 to $500.00 dollars. Manual ones are under $200.00.

The time to fill the different filters is meaningless, have you ever started a car without the filter? It will literally empty the crankcase in about a second. I saw this at a dealer once when the oil change droid took a break during a oil change.. Was funny as all hell, the guy in the pit told the guy up top to start the car and swoosh.. oil everywhere... took him about 30 seconds to shut the motor down.. and by then there was no oil coming out. Owner of the car was not impressed.. I've also blown enough oil systems auto racing to have watched many many failures of oil cooler lines etc and the volume a car oil pump can move even at idle is ferocious..

Hello all,
I have scanned the footprint of the flange receiving the filter on the fit manual 09 (Japan built if that matters). I then used image J to measure the radii (I actually fitted an ellipsoid for better precision).

Results are:
O.D. 73.34mm (2.89")
I.D. 56.11mm (2.21")
See picture below.
Hope this helps a few.
Cheers to all.
Hydro

diameter 3.15, height 2.95, Relief valve 12-15 psi

calculated volume based on outside dimensions:
PL14610 = 20
PL14459 = 23

So the shorter fatter filter is maybe 15% bigger than the stock one, so there might be more filter medium in there but depending on how they are constructed it is not a certainty. We need to open one of each, remove the filter media and measure the surface area to really know without a doubt which has more.

Also the bypass for the S2000's filter opens at potentially a lower pressure than the stock one for the FIT, though the ranges overlap. I don't like that very much, it is not a huge difference, but perhaps it could be used as a basis for warranty denial.

I have not checked the data from the Fram site, and do not know the dimensions of the genuine Honda stock filter, but so far, the advantage does not seem that certain.

I know the psi figures are wrong and are flipped. The S2000 has the highest psi by-pass relief valve of any production car made in the world because of the 9,000 rpm motor.

I use to use Hyundai filters Fram Ultras, that are even bigger then the S2000 ones. But after using common logic and seeing a guy on Bob's the oil guy go 42,000 and figuring he went into by-pass at around 37,000 on a Amsoil filter,

I no longer worry about filters capacity when using a synthetic filter. I use Fram Ultra's S2000 filters because they were $2.00 cheaper then the Hyundai Ultra' filter.

I use any synthetic oil from walmart even Walmarts/Warners full synthetic for 5,000 miles on my 2009 Fit and use the filter for 2 oil changes. The "caking effect" makes the Ultra even a better filter as time and milage progresses. I pull the filter and drain center and take a pen and push open the anti-drain back flapper to drain the outer side and fill the center so the whole filter has the new oil in it and screw the once used filter back on.

Just as in Redline, Amsoil, Castroil, and Max Life ATF is better then DW-1, altering OEM stuff with high end well designed parts is a smart move if your warranty is over. Many parts and fluids are approved for use because of the Mangnison Moss Warranty Act. So hearing all these people "the do ONLY as the manual says" and "so you think you know more then the Honda engineers" BS is for the birds. OEM = "just kinda good" not "top tier" like the above ATF fluids that work better the OEM fluids.
