Just purchased a 12 Fit Sport 5 speed. I am going to get it set up to tow behind my motorhome. Just came back from a 1k mile trip to the Oregon Coast. My wife drove the Fit and I the MH. I could not believe the first fill up the computer said 42.3 mpg....no way....when I filled up did the math and sure enough it was just about right on! OK an anomaly...on subsequent fill up same...right around 41 mpg. This is all highway driving but I am really impressed. The Fit is very fun to drive and my wife can't believe how easy it shifts....even better than the Mazda3 she had!

 

Was she slip streaming the MH by any chance?

42 is eminently achievable at favorable speeds (45-55mph) and or favorable winds. Above 65mph the Fit's brick-like aerodynamics work against it.

First off, what up from Oregon!!!! I'm in bend where are you man? Second, I managed a ridiculous 48.9mpg over the cascades one trip. Epic. Not trying out do ya, but just know the fit has much more in it!

I also have a 12' fit with 1100 miles. I have got 41.5 -42.5 MPG on each fill up as well. Hand calculations back up the computer. I drive 80% highway at 62 mph for max mileage. My wifes 09' still gets the same kind of mileage at 63000 miles.

These Fits are great $$$ savers. I am getting this mileage without a lot of effort, those owners not getting at least 35 MPG highway must be lead footing it for sure or driving up some big mountains.

 

If you filled up and drove 100% highway, good mps is easy. The car does it's very best like that. Mix highway with city/town driving, the numbers pull back to earth. Enjoy your Fit!

 

Haha...don't think so. But you are correct...I was most likely running the MH at around 55 or so...since she was following probably similar speed.

If it were traffically possible it could be done even easier. Nowhere in my world can 45 mph be maintained for any longer than a moment or two. Even at 4:30am here there's always some moron gumming up the works on the road. I'm convinced, there are no more qualified drivers left on the open roads of today, sorry to say.

 

Agreed! Ppl are terrible drivers! It's part of the reason the car market is down. Today's youth are so stupid they don't know how to even change a tire or jump a battery! Japan has the same problem right now...

 

I see mid 30s on the highway....speed limit is 75....i value my time more than a couple of extra bucks...

 

This thread should be moved to the ECO thread as 55-62mph is not real world for most of us. My highway speed limit is 70-75mph, anything less than that and the semis will run you off the road. I recently did 240 miles, 75-80mph, headlights on, 50% A/C usage and got 35mpg.

I have also observed my highest mpg (55-60mpg) from ScanGage is at steady 40mph in 4th gear. I have never seen higher than 50mpg in 5th gear at any steady and sustained speed.

40mpg is great I average low 40 all the time with a good mix of city/hwy. Honda for what ever reason really understates the actual MPG of the Fit.

 

I get 41-42 mpg in mixed driving—hwy, city, acceleration, engine starts, bumper to bumper rush hour traffic, idling. Pretty damn impressive for mixed driving. I've gotten 43.7 on the highway doing 73 mph, with A/C, headwinds and hills.

 

How much MPG is lost with the lights on?

 

I was just able to get 41.2 MPG driving on the highway in my 09 Fit, and before that filled up only 4.2 gallons after driving the car for 170 miles. Love the MPG, its so much better than my previous R32!

 

Under the conditions you list that mpg is incredible. Actually more like unbelievable for me. This mpg is calculated at the pump and over a full tank?

Minimal and probably near impossible to measure the difference for the average driver. I'd guess 1/4 to 1/2 a mpg. I know when at a steady idle the gph (gallons per hour) on my ScanGage increases slightly when I turn on the headlights.

Long trips in the Fit are great for gas mileage. I drove from Portland to Crater Lake and averaged 46 MPG with 3 people and a lot of gear in the Fit. Coming back up it was about 42.

I try to remember those good times when I'm now averaging 30mpg in my 2011 sport AT as my commuter. I was at 34 before winter hit. I think the Fit hates the cold, or the winter fuel mixture. My MPG is creeping back up now as "spring" starts in Portland.

Ah, who cares? I love my Fit!!!
