I was driving to work this morning and check engine light came on. The "D" on cluster was continuously blinking as well. Car wouldn't get pass 3rd gear. Had to turn around and drive to dealership 20 miles away at a max speed of 40 mph.

I was thinking the worst, but dealership service says it was just a 3rd gear pressure switch that failed. Part was not in stock and had to leave vehicle. It will be ready tomorrow. Thinking about it now, I believe it might have been slowly failing. There were times in the last month or so that I felt the car was having trouble shifting out of third and this was just normal driving. I by no means beat on the car. I drive it to get the most mpg out of it, which is more grandpa like.

I thought it might have been the grade logic Steve was talking about, but it would happen at times and other times it wouldn't.

Anyway, this is just a heads up if it should happen to anyone else.

 

Its actually gooing for an automatic transmission to go through its paces once in a while.

Give the transmission a chance to feel more engine rpm every once in awhile.

Dont need to beat the crap out of it, just go pass a few people on the highway every once in awhile like a teenager


Dont leave the throttle mashed down when you know its about to shift. let off a bit, a transmission Doesnt like shifting under heavy throttle

 

I do. I just don't beat the crap out of it.

 

i feel like my 5th gear takes a while in engage : / is that normal i just flick paddle to make it shift also this is city driving but freeway no issues

no check engine light

 

Maybe try leaving it in 2nd and just casually running it out to about 5500 rpm then let off throttle and shift into drive

See if doing that a few times does anything. Might not make a difference, maybe it will.

Driving a bit hard and maintaining a gear nad hitting higher rpms helped my camry tranny. The previous owner apparently never pushed the camry hard, it smoked quote badly the first few times I beat on it, but cleared up after a few weeks. changing the fluid didnt do much for it, other then making me feel better that fresh fluid was in probably for the first time in its life

 

I doubt the pressure switch failed because of driving habits. Probably a defective part? Who knows. Anyway, just glad they're fixing it under warranty.

 

This has happen to other owners seems to be a defective part.

Happened to me. Replaced the solenoid switch and solved the issue.

I was worried that driving it to the dealer in limp mode would damage something. Dealer said as long as I drove around 40 mph, it was fine. Had to baby it in to dealer. They gave me a CRV loaner, but I really just want my Fit back.

 

That would definitely make your Fit a "City Use Only" commuter car.

 

Never heard of this before this thread I have a manual transmission. Did have a automatic in my Corolla but 120k plus miles and only problem was a defective computer replaced under the drive train warranty. I did have a automatic Element but only kept it for 9 months.

 

Fit will run about 85mph in 3rd. You were running less than 1/2 rpm.

I'm going to pick it up this afternoon. The service advisor said that's all it was and that they took it on extended test drive to make sure all is good.

 

cool. A good thing about Honda is their parts distribution. I've never had to wait more than a day for any part. And this was on a 10 year-old Honda (yes, they do start to require parts after 10 years...). Maybe the distribution center is here in Atlanta.

I have had good luck with the two dealers Toyota and Honda. The Honda dealer is 60 miles away but are really good makes a trip but gives me a opportunity to go to different restaurants that we do not have locally.

 

Glad they got you taken care of with minimal down time.I just hit 22K on my 2012 A/T
and all is well but I will keep this fix in mind.

It's funny how different manufacturers handle things.If this was Ford they would have just replaced the whole transmission lol

so lazy and incompetent rather just replace the part and not try to diagnose anything.

 

Well, in Ford's defense, this is an external part. I think if something internal had broken, Honda would have swapped out the entire transmission.

I can't believe I'm defending Ford.

I think the complexity of today's automatics require a factory setting to do justice to a rebuild while remaining competitive. AAMCO is welcome to disagree.
