Trouble starting 2012 Honda Fit Sport
Hello,
I'm brand new here. I just purchased a 2012 Honda Fit Sport two days ago. Everything was great until this morning when I tried to start it up and it wouldn't turn over. It finally started on the third try. When I turned the key the dash lights would flash on and off and there was a clicking sound. Does this sound like a battery issue? I bought it used from a Chrysler dealership. They will fix it for me, but I'm wondering if that would void the warranty. If it is a battery, I know they are covered under the Honda warranty. My three year 30,000 mile warranty is still good. Anyone have a similar problem? Thanks!

Thanks Steve,
I've got a call into the Honda dealership, so hopefully they can take care of it. It was a little disconcerting to have issues with the car less than 48 hours after purchasing it. However, it is in Alaska and has been at the dealership since last fall. I'm guessing the winter wasn't kind to the battery.

This sounds like a classic battery issue. The clicking sound is what my older cars have done in the past when the battery has died. If it was the starter I don't think it would turn over at all. If it was a fuel or compression issue it would just keep trying to turn over with no results.
I would call the dealership and tell them what is going on. Im sure they will take care of it.
FYI and NOT saying you should do this but in a pinch if you have manual and your battery dies you can push the car and pop the clutch to start it.

Sadly, my new Fit is an automatic. It's the first automatic I've ever owned. The local Honda dealership is going to take a look at it tomorrow. I just hope it starts up in the morning. I talked to the dealership and my warranty is still good. Aside from the battery issue, I'm loving my new Fit. It's a HUGE upgrade from my old 1998 Subaru Impreza wagon.

Yep, bad battery. Honda replaced it under warranty. They also said I needed a new engine air filter and a cabin filter. Those little suckers are kind of expensive! $45 for the engine air and $85 for the cabin.

Glad it was the battery!!

check our tire pressure too. should be 33psi or something..check door jam. i use 35-36psi on my car.
and dont be afraid to crank the starter for up to 10+ seconds. while we'd expect to turn over within 2-3 seconds of cranking, cranking longer is normal sometimes.... especially after drastic weather change from when you shut the car off. GL

you have to charge the battery. it was probably sitting at the dealer too long. after you get a jump just drive for 45min-1hr on the hwy with little stops.
