Wholly MPG gain Batman!!!
So as most of you know I have made a couple of drives up from Wilmington to Raleigh (120mi). The first trip I got a tad under the estimated 33mpg (32mpg). Average speed was 75mph. So I mentioned it to my fitfreak family and was told to change oil which was badly needed and i forgot to over inflate my tires 2-3psi. So the next trip i got 34mpg which was underwhelming to me still. So I go to my neighborhood gas station called (Handy Hugo). I always run 93 octane but it is a no name brand.
So here's where things change. I went from Wilmington to Myrtle Beach (60mi). When I arrived, to my surprise the M.I.D. was reading 43mpg. So I'm in a state of confusion. My average speed was 65mph but it used to be only 36mpg at that speed. So on the drive back, I decided to not clear the M.I.D. to include the small amount of mixed driving (10%) and (90%) highway. While driving back, I began to go into deep thought of where the change was. As i stated earlier i go to the gas station a mile from my house. Reason being is all i have to do is pull up to a pump and a station rep comes out and pumps my gas (I'm a paraplegic remember?). It wasn't until I turned down my street that I noticed my station changed from no name to EXXON. (DING DING DING!!!). What u guys say is truth. Even in an economy car. I SHOULD KNOW BETTER but the convenience trumped quality of gas. So those on the fence to pumping GO GAS, etc... STOP.

Yeah, premium gas doesn't help, as such but cheapo crap sure can hurt.
My last car didn't like the gas at one convenience store in the area.
Lots of variables in FE, and gas chioce can be one of them. I'm glad you found it.

Great tip. BTW don't use premium if your car isn't designed for it, there isn't any benefit. Higher octane only means the fuel resists pre-ignition better allowing for higher compression.
Better gas from a reputable company means a better additive package which can have benefits over what you get from no name gas.

I have some similar experience too.since i am about to install a turbo in next week so i started filling my fit with premium gas.i noted 7 mpg raise.i trip on each weekened almost 400 kms for my job.so i zero my zero my odo every time.each time its like 40 mpg with speed 120-130km/h but for last two trips its 48 mpg,and may be higher if i am light on foot.

I'm glad you shared your numbers because the difference is so great you have to say your mind must be playing tricks on you but I have now been doing city driving exclusively for 2 weeks and the number has gone from 18-19mpg on the crappy Handy Hugo gas to a whopping 34mpg. I'm being dead serious. I don't have time to type up story's to later be labeled a liar. Especially since I was offered a big online position ill share in the appropriate thread that's been running for years by someone that's moved onto other things.

As some one earlier explained its not magic of premium fuel alone but previously usage of bad fuel.as our cars have high compression ratio like 10.4:1
so they perform and have good mpg on hi-octane fuels. The new GK has 11.5:1 ratio.i think premium fuels will effect her even more nicely than ours GE

Weather also depends, going against a southwest headwind, I only got a 28. Going with it the next time I was closer to 39mpg. It was quite a nice change of pace. Plus the Fit wasn't struggling to maintain 75.

well can't find a straight spec sheet, but this Honda Fit Hybrid Challenges Toyota Prius Leadership - Clean Fleet Report says the Fit Hybrid should be doing 71 MPG. Your stated number doesn't even come close to that. The picture on the site is a Shuttle, however they don't state its specs for the Shuttle. Even if it was, its heavier and bigger than an RS Hybrid and still has better MPG.
On highways its 50 mpg as batteries dont help much at higher speeds and our Fits are higher so more air resistance at highway speeds.honda insigh has best drag co-efficient in world, that gives near 65-70 mpg even on highway.
Another factor,Honda FIt Gp1,Insight and Shuttle have 1340 cc i-dsi+ivtec mixed engine utilizing 2 plugs per cylender(total 8 plugs),they even give more MPG.
GP4 on other hand is power oriented,16 valve SOHC,ivtec and 4 plugs,so it has slightly less MPG.but still can get 70 MPG
i have posted on many forums and even here at fitfreak pics of my mileage.
here 72.3 mpg in city driving in flowing traffic
Here 66.3 mpg same tour ending with mixed traffic stop & go
but usually i enjoy it in sport mode so long term averages are effected. paddle shift in a sport mode is lot fun man, heck with average :P
and on highways always some race starts and usually speed reached 190-200km/h,so you can imagine its drastic effect on mileage and plus the factor i told you above about drag co-efficeint.
and as i am about to turbo charge it,i dont know how that will effect my mileage but i dont care, all i care and hope is that those miles will be fun IA
