I'm sorry EXT but the pictures are pretty small. What happened? did they damage your emblem? If so, I'd complain. I have a red H emblem on my steering wheel and it came out just perfect after the airbag replacement.

I am happy to say that the airbag recall work is all done on my 2012 Fit Sport. I called yesterday expecting Honda to say no parts available, but instead they said, "When do you want the work done?"

Nice! It's a good feeling to have the airbag recall work done.

Can't believe how much concern is placed on a possible faulty airbag. The incident of death or serious injury is such small minuscule possibility. There are many deaths everyday in accidents,(40,000 a year in the USA alone) let alone serious injuries. People are driving rentals in fear of a bad airbag, yet don't seemed to be concerned they have a larger chance of dieing in an accident.

Just had the 2 recalls driver and passenger done on my 09 Base. The risk is higher in high heat and humidity states like Florida and the rest of the Southeast so I wasn't to worried about waiting for it (Chicago).

I received notification in the mail last March which basically said stand by for further instructions, I finally brought it by the dealership in September while stopping by for some other parts and they said they didn't have the parts for the recall and put me on a list, when I didn't hear anything by this Jan I called again and they said bring it in whenever so I did and finally got it done.

does anyone know if it is true that the dealership needs the whole car along with the steering wheel to do the fix?
cause i have an aftermarket steering wheel, and i wanted to just drop off my oem steering wheel to the honda dealership to swap out the inflator, and they said no, told me that they need the car too so they can program the new air bag inflator to my car, is that true or false?

they dont touch the steering wheel. theres a canister in the steering column that will be changed.

i know its the inflator, which is just under the horn button, but do they really need the whole car? they said it needed to be programmed to the car, but i think thats bs, maybe they need the whole car just to check the VIN# to confirm the car?

First off, if you have an aftermarket, why bother with the OEM? Resale value down the line I guess?

I mean I know it seems logical that "hey here is the part that needs to be fixed...you dont need the other 99% of the car." But to them they need to ensure this part is actually going into the car that it allegedly came out of...and what easier way to confirm this than to do the fix while the part is in the car.

Basically they are doing this to cover their @$$es. Who's to say you are going to install that steering wheel into your car and not some other Fit? They supposed to take your word for it? Just playing devils advocate.

yeah, it makes sense its a liability thing, its just the service guy said it needed to be programmed, and i thought it was a dumb excuse

Are you kidding me? If you understand the problem, you should be MAD AS HELL that this even needs replaced. Shrapnel, ie metal bits, flying at your face that has already killed 11+ people and "injured" 100s, to what extent we don't know. I, for one, do not want to be worried that the life saving technology is going to outright kill me because of greedy penny-pinching Takata took shortcuts on their R&D and construction methods. You can quote numbers or percentages, UNTIL IT'S YOU OR SOMEONE YOU KNOW.

I'd like to do everything in my power to live in an accident. I'm a damn good driver (I drive in SCCA autocross). I never thought I'd see an airbag deploy. But 1 second of inattentiveness and an erratic action from another driver... BAM!

So I actually just had my airbag deploy 2 weeks ago. I'm glad I had it replaced and I'm alive and not maimed.

11 killed by airbag issues, but 40,000 killed in traffic accidents (let alone the number maimed for life). You feel more comfortable driving with the replaced airbag?

That 40,000 is for auto related deaths...not specifically airbag related.

2.35 million people are injured or disabled due accidents in the US annually (according to Road Crash Statistics)

So you have to consider...those 2.35 million probably had their airbag deploy...and if they had faulty airbags they would then be added to the 40,000. So technically with the faulty airbag...you are nearly 59x more likely to die than if you were to have a car with a properly functioning airbag where you would be minorly-seriously injured. 2,350,000 injuries/40,000 deaths = 58.75. So basically with a faulty airbag, what could've been a mild injury...could turn into a fatality due to shrapnel from the airbag.

Then again...you could argue....11 deaths out of 2.35 million....is roughly 1 in 213,636 or 0.00000468085% chance.

I guess its more piece of mind that I dont win the "shrapnel" lottery in the event I am unfortunate enough to be in an accident where my airbag deploys. Rather be slightly injured than risk death.

Yeah it is still an extremely LOW probability...but still. So based on your nonchalant attitude towards that small chance of shrapnel to the face...are you NOT doing to replace the airbag?

Also what did you mean by "yet don't seemed to be concerned they have a larger chance of dieing in an accident." How do we have a larger/higher percentage of dying in an accident by driving a rental? I don't follow.

2012. Had passenger side done yesterday. 1 hour later, done. Driver's side was replaced 3 months ago. I had battery replaced as well. Original battery in there (over 5 years old) and was worried it would just fail out of blue.
