Insane vibration at 45+mph
2010 Fit Sport Manual
First things first. Car has been running great. Took it to a rallyx today and it was a blast but on the way home I got up to 45mph and it felt like the engine was going to fly out of the car. Steering wheel shake and body vibration were crazy. At first I thought it was the lower engine mount as it looked out of place but that was due to the amount of mud and dirt. Put some ratchet straps around the intake runners and cranked them down on the frame rails to try and prevent the engine from moving back. That didn't work and think it was the drivers side engine/trans mount but it doesn't look that bad.
After a long long drive home at 42mph I put the car up on jack stands and don't see anything wrong with the wheels/tires, tie rods, steering rack, axles/cvs, shocks/springs etc.
Should I just window weld that drivers side mount and see if that solves it? I know it's hard to diagnose over the internet, just looking to see if anyone has had this issue of a horrible vibration at highway speeds and if it's a mount.

you said you were at rallyx today. check your wheels/rotors for caked mud that can throw off your wheel balance.
i had a bad vibration last year. shook like a bitch at the steering wheel when coasting/decel/accel. not so bad at constant speed but if under a certain speed. it was my drivers side axle.
to check your engine mounts. do this. have someone watch or record the engine for you. turn on the car. step on the brake and put up the ebrake. put it on drive then reverse. you are looking for too much engine movement. if there is your mounts are bad.
fwiw. window welding your mounts will make your vibrations worse at idle.

i might have to clean everything out again. The motor does move pretty bad during the mount test in drive and reverse. Might be worth getting the innovative mounts if I'm going to continue to track this thing. Thanks for the info and fast response!

Well took out and inspected all the motor/trans mounts today. All still in tact. Wheels did have about a pound of mud stuck to the inside. We'll see if that's it. Cleaned them out but taking this opportunity with everything apart to change spark plugs and adjust valves and check for the valve train chatter I mentioned in another thread. Also going to do a retrofit to Morimoto D2S square projectors.
So I'll know after a couple of days whether or not it was the wheels or something else.

Just need to trim a bit on the back side to get the nut to thread and paint.
