Power window failure, 2012 Honda Fit

Hi All,

My 2012 Fit with only 20 some thousand miles (miles probably no matter for this post) had a power window failure. The problem is mechanical, as I can hear the motor turn when I try to close the window (stuck completely open).

I was surprised something like this could happen so soon (though more a function of open/close, and age, I guess), and the dealer cost to repair this is quite surprising as well. The regulator alone (no labor), which I am being told needs to be replaced, costs 300 to 400 dollars, depending on where you buy it, and then labor costs.

Anyone experiencing this problem? It's hard to estimate how many times I opened and closed the driver's side window, but I guess I could estimate at least 1000 times? That is a difficult number to estimate. I just tried to find a minimum.

How many open and closes can a window have?

Just wondering about other experiences.

Thanks

Yes a bolt on the regulator fell out (no threadlock used!), then the bracket bent from the cable tension, and the cable sliped off the spool. Happened to me on my 2011 at 38K. Dealer was no help. Got the whole assembly for $60 on ebay.

Was just researching this yesterday for my 2012. New regulator and motor from JC Whitney is about $92 shipped after 20% discount code. Rockauto is around $110. Would just get both the motor and regulator, the install doesn't seem particularly difficult just a little time consuming.

I'm not convinced mileage is relevant for Honda power windows, it seems they are poorly made and a common problem going back to most 90's civics, accords, integras, etc...

Guess it helps to know where to look. Very kind of you to post these ideas. I did not give ebay or JC Whitney a thought, though I have used ebay to buy other things. I had found one discount store that was maybe 100 cheaper, but that was it. Yes, I looked at some on line videos and it did seem a bit time consuming to do.

I asked two other Fit owners with cars two years older than mine if they had issues. One said no, and the other said it still worked, but perhaps a bit strangely. It just seemed a bit too soon to me.
