uncontrolled reving on start up

Hi everyone,

not sure where to start
this morning I started my 2009 fit
(drove it to the gas station yesterday afternoon with no problems)

the car started right up, but then revs to red line immediately (while in park)
I touched the throttle to see if it was stuck and the pedal moves freely and doesn't seem to be restricted.

I turned it off immediately

I tried a 2nd time and the exact same thing happened.

I'm not sure but assume its a drive by wire throttle?
any idea where I should start to look, or if this is a common failure?

thanks a ton for the help and ideas
brant

Is your throttle on the throttle body under the hood physically stuck?

I will pull the air cleaner tube and inspect as soon as I get home

is it a drive by wire throttle? the pedal felt normal with full return, but if its electronic that probably means nothing

the weird thing is I drove it perfectly normal yesterday afternoon
and drove it 200 miles for the weekend too...
never had this problem previously

Yes it is a drive by wire throttle system. The throttle body sounds like a good start, but doesnt really explain why it would be open like that when you start the car.

The throttle body typically cycles to WOT and then closed really fast might be a dirty throttle body or the TPS is wacky and it thinks it's closed OR you have a hose off.

Dog food caught in throttle blade?? (rodents chewed through the filter, stored food gets sucked through)
I've seen it more than once.

Check engine light on now? Codes?

Maybe some electronic glich. Disconect battery then reconnect. Never know.
You could also check and make surei plug at the pedal is fully engaged. Doubt if loose but check it.

Disconnect accelerator pedal connector and try to start. If pedal position sensor is bad it will run like a crap but will not rev-up

Gee, where is the reply from topic starter?? This is the best thing this forum is noted about!
Asking questions, getting bunch of answers and vanishing with no replies.
Hopefully he did not do anything stupid to become statistic of uncontrolled acceleration.
Electronic throttle control, air bags and variable valve timing SUCK big way!!
My next car will be 1973 compact!!

True, true.

This phenomena seems to prevail elsewhere too, such as in photography forums. Inexperienced topic starters buy expensive cameras, post questions that make no sense and then vanish. Sigh.
