Hitch Receiver?

Hitch Receiver?
Don't laugh, I'm not trying to tow anything with the Fit. For my '09 Fit I was hoping to install a 1.25" hitch receiver to mount a bike rack (I do not want a roof rack, nor a 'piggy-back' type of bike rack that clamps to the rear hatch).
I will check auto parts stores for do-it-yourself kits, and if that doesn't pan out I'll check with the local U-Haul to see if they can install a receiver. I'm just curious if anyone here has ever installed a receiver on their Fit, and how they went about it.

BY the way, I just picked up my 2009 Fit Sport. It is completely different from the 2008 frame. There is no tow hook/loop in the back. The unibody frame has two lengthwise extensions that come all the way to the back. Look to me that this will take an entirely different hitch receiver than previous models.

Bad news, at least for now. See my last post in this thread:

Me too. But it looks like dzager (Dave) and other 2nd. genners have a problem if they need a hitch, at least for now.

2009 Fit hitch
I've looked into this too, I called Draw-Tite and they told me there should be a hitch available in a few months. I don't think it's all that surprising that there's no hitch out yet, after all the car has only been out for a few weeks.
True, the 2009 Fit doesn't have a tow hook, but I don't think that makes it impossible to design a trailer hitch. I did some looking on the eTrailer site at other tiny cars like the 08 Nissan Versa and Toyota Yaris. Some have tow hooks, some don't, but there are hitches made for all of them.
Also, many companies tell Americans that their small cars can't tow anything, but it's not necessarily true. The American manual for the 08 Fit says it's not designed for towing, yet the British manual says it can tow 1000kg.
I think it's just a matter of time. I certainly hope so, as I pick up my 09 Fit in 2 weeks and will need to tow a very small trailer come next spring.
