Signed Up for a New Fit Sport: Couple of Questions

Hello All: Found this website a few days ago. Nice to see a fair amount of people conversing about the new 09 Fit. I decided to leave the Volkswagen world & join the Honda team. I owned 5 Jettas in a row. I was tempted to get the new Jetta TDI, but diesel prices are appx. $0.70 more a gallon up here in New England & the price tag was $23,500. Not worth it IMHO. I own a Honda Marine engine (BF150) & my wife use to own the 1st year Honda CRV, all damn near bullet-proof. She sold it a couple of years ago to her friend & it's still going strong after 130,000+ miles.

I placed an order this past Thursday for a Milano Red Sport (MT/No Navi) Sold my 2003 Jetta GLI VR6 (23,000 miles) for $10,500 today. Took me all of two days to sell it! I know, looks like I don't put on that many miles. Well...I will be very shortly w/ a new sales territory. Anyway...A couple of questions.

Do you think it's worth getting the Navigation set up for an additional $1850.00? I don't really need it, but the long haul will it help the resale in 5 years or so?

Also...What's the deal on the Arm Rest Kit? With MT is a no-go? It seems like it has plenty of distance from the shifter! Any insight here?

Is there no hood type of visor that prevents stones etc. from chipping the front hood? I noticed CRV's & Elements have this accessory. Nothing for the Fit? I can't seem to find anything.

Any "real" reports on highway MPG? If you take it easy (say 60 mph) can one get high 30's for mileage?

One bummer...Just found out in another post, no Zune with USB (sigh) I assume that the Fit Sport comes with a mini-jack...correct?

Ok....I guess I've worn out my welcome w/ so many questions. Any & all inisight would be appreciated. Looks like 8 weeks for my new Honda Fit Sport, maybe longer if I change & get the Navigation!

Thanks All!

Alex

BTW...I paid retail (no markups) here @ Honda North in Danvers, MA.

Welcome new potential Fit owner

I bought the Navi because of the extras that came with it (VSA, audio on steering) and the fact that I've never had navigation and have always wanted it. I like that it is built in. Yes there is an auxillery port below the dash. Personally, I am getting the "clear bra" paint protection. It is kind of expensive but my old fit had a lot of chips on the front. So far, my milage gauge is showing 40.8 and I am almost through 1 tank of gas. Hope that answers some of your questions. There's lots of help here. So ask all you want.

Thanks for the reply...Does a Honda dealership do that clear bra set up or is it a local scenario? Thanks for the heads-up.

I got lucky. The 3M/X-pel certified distributor lives one block behind me
The dealers do not do this (at least in my area). You have to got to the manufacturer site to find a distributor.

* I'm not a Navi fan. I have a portable one if I need it. Usually, I just go the same places over and over. Certainly, for a lot of folks, it would be a plus, but I think I only saw 1 nav Fit at dealers. Also, I don't know how Honda nav units go, but most others need periodic updates (read $$$). I personally wouldn't expect much resale value in 5-year old technology that probably needs updating.

* Visors, etc. This car is just too new. I'm sure there will be the usual aftermarket accessories shortly. I'm on the lookout for a carpet trunk mat.

* So far, I'm getting very low 30s (AT), but I drive with the speed of other cars and with the AC on. I'm not out for major sacrifices in order to win some mileage competition.

* Sport Fit comes with an "old-school" mini-stereo jack on the front panel under a little rubber plug.

* Congrats on the price. Nice deal.

-The sport model comes with an armrest on the seat that folds down. I believe someone on here did put the console for the AT in a MT, but I can't remember the tread. Regardless, the armrest it does have is pretty comfy.

-I know what you mean about being disappointed about the lack of Zune support. My solution was I bought a 4 gig flash drive for $15 that I just leave in the glove box. The folder navigation through the unit is plenty fine to search for you music. Just press the center button, and use the volume wheel to scroll through folders.

-No real point in getting Navi, unless you want it for the VSA, or just want steering wheel volume controls. With technology advances in the next 5 years, the Navi unit will be completely outdated, and will probably not net you any more for resale.

I agree totally with your assesment. Unless VSA is a must have, I think $1850 is a lot of money for a built-in unit that doesn't even have bluetooth capability or text-to-speech capability to pronounce all streets by name. I test drove a Fit with navi this afternoon, and while I was impressed with the big screen and streamlined look of the built-in unit, I was disappointed when the system didn't call out most streets by name. And, for someone that doesn't travel a lot, I think the fun factor will wear off rather quickly, particularly for someone like me. Finally, in terms of resale value, check out the following links:
