Thanks for the offer! Very good price, but I'll give it a couple more days (Friday, supposedly). Honestly I'd love to put the money on new rims & tires, just can't justify it right now. If I get delayed again though, I'll be writin' that PM ...
The Fit does have odd sized, usually not in stock tires. When I replaced my tires, I kept two of the old ones, so if I have a tire failure, I will have something to run on until replacements come.
The fit sport tire is still not readily available (in OKC at least). My wife ran over or parked on an odd piece of metal, near tread edge, yesterday not repairable. Local tire dealer and Firestone store don't have replacements, few days to get in. Haven't tried dealers yet, its Sunday. Local tire place (Tire Plus - Hibdon) has same price as Tire Rack. Probably a wash with delivery charge versus local taxes, probably delivery time about the same. Firestone wanted about $70 more! One dealer listed about $20 more (don't know if it includes mounting etc). Checking on availability, price tomorrow.

Yup, same thing, post on wheels/tirerack forum, ppl thought I was joking. Got a flat beyond repair last Sunday, got a pair of 205/55/16 on the rear, now my car looks like a drag car, lol.
Will 205/50/16 goes on stock wheels? Is there any clearance problem at the front if I replace all 4's? Since 205/50/16 is wider, is it going to affect the gas mileage? With 0.8" wider, I wonder how it will look. Can anyone post some pics?

It will look the same, you really won't be able to tell the difference until you go way higher than that. You will probably lose 1 or 2 mpg. There will be no clearance issues. The car should have came with 205/50 to begin with, but of course Honda's priority is mpg and not handling.

I went through this in 2002 with my CR-V. That was the first year of the redesign and the stock tires were 205/70 15 inch Bridgestone Dueler H/T 684's. For a while, that was all you could find for it. And they were horrible tires. On CR-Vs, the front tires wear awfully quick and these tires especially. Their UTQG is 180! At least OE tires on our car have scores in the 300s! But as time went on, more tires appeared. I now have a set of General Altimax's on the V that are the best tires I've tried yet.
If the Fit remains a popular car, this will happen with it, too. Tire manufacturers will be foolish not to offer a size to "fit" it as they will lose sales to other companies. BTW, if you are fortunate enough to live near one of tirerack's distribution centers, you can always tell them you'll come and pick up yourself and save the shipping costs.
It's when your car is NOT popular and has an odd tire size that it can be tricky. I picked up a 1997 SAAB 900 a year after I first got the CR-V. It was already a 13 year old model at that point. Yet it was near impossible to find tires anywhere but a few sold at tirerack the whole time I had it. There are still less tires available for it than my CR-V.
So take heart. I doubt the tire drought will last long. Not very comforting for the short term. But it will get better.

FWIW, there are many threads on using 205/50's. I've had them on my Fit for about 6 months now, zero problems. You will lose 2 mpg from my observation, but what you gain in braking distance reduction, improved handling, and better resistance to cross winds outweighs the loss in mpg. Plus, your car simply looks better. Stock rim width is fine. Sure it'd be nice if it were 0.5 to 1.0 inches wider, but it looks fine and is well within the allowed width for a 205/50. Many, many more tire choices, too. No brainer.

That size will throw your odometer and speedometer off a bit. The correct substitution would be 205/50 x 16. Check out:
This is why when i get new tires, I keep a couple of the takeoffs. Then if I have a tire failure, I have a tire to use while waiting for the replacement.

Great idea, just keep track of the age of the tire. Old tires aren't safe.
