Smile Dropped and +43 wheel fitment pics

Hey all!

I finally put on my rims today... They're 5zigen GN+ "hyper black" rims. They are 17x7.5 +43 and are running on 205/40/17 tires. I am very happy with the results. The front rims do pop out from the fender by 2-3mm and isn't flushed like how a +45 would be, but oh well. The Tanabe NF210 springs keep them at a good height. I haven't driven over crazy speed bumps or anything yet, so I can't tell if there is crazy rubbing...yet (although I hope not !!!)

Once again, excuse my crap camera phone pics, but thats all i gots. Here are the pics:

Just gonna wait to smoke the front & rear lights, and put on a new grill once aftermarket ones are released as I REALLY don't like the stock grill...

looks good! are those springs for the GE or the GD. asking because the rear looks like it sits a little "high" compared to the front.

The springs are made for the GE8. The supposed specs from TanabeUSA are a 1" drop in the front & a 1.5" drop in the back...

Remember, its not just offset, its wheel width and offset.

I could put a 14x5.5 +43 wheel on and it would be sunken in compared to those wheels.

Just didn't want anyone to be confused - Wheel Tech - Offset

It probably helps that your tires are 2.3% smaller than the stock OD too, you'll get less rubbing (and quicker gearing) but higher revs on the highway and more accumulated mileage than actually travelled.

WOW... looks really really good man. The 17"s look perfect; I always thought 16" was just a little too small. The drop looks great also.. nice job.

You just solidified my future decision on dropping and upgrading to 17" rims..

the car looks good!, but i think you should have gone with a 45 series tire instead of 40, it'll fill out those fenders better and your speedometer will be much more accurate, so say this website Wheel / tire size calculator / comparer - WHEELSMASTER

45's will rub a dub no? I was planning to go 215/45/17, that calculator says its only 1% slower on the speedo.

Haha...I will try to take better pictures when I borrow a friends camera, and of course, a car wash as it's filthy from rain last week

But yeah, I did much driving today, both freeway and surface streets. I went over speed bumps, took sharp & fast turns on the freeway onramps and offramps...NO RUBBAGE!!!! I am REALLY happy thus far. I think when the stock shocks get worn down, there will eventually be rubbing. But for now, everything is stiff so the compression doesn't allow for rubbing yet.

In regards to the 205/40 tires, they came with the rims. The tires only had approx. 2000 miles on them, so I'm content with them for now. I got the entire package plus the racing lugs for $700 shipped. I knew that the +43 were going to extend outward a little bit, but I really liked the rims so I said to hell with it

Thanks for the comment. I too was debating about 16's or 17's, but I saw a thread where a guy threw 18's on his GE...it looked pretty damn good IMO. So, I picked the median and got 17's. I got a good deal to which also solidfied my decision.

Here's the link to the guy w/ 18's:

so all that talk about 7.5 wide wheels with a 43 off rubbing is just speculation...Im still gonna run a 47et wheel as I want a more squared off tire and it will need the room...plus I already have my heart set on something....

Well, I was driving alone...so I'm not sure how it'll be when there are 4 ppl sitting in the car. But I drive alone most of the time, so that's all that matters

If these wheels came in a higher offset, I would've jumped all over them. A higher offset would look more cleaner and "squared off". I just saw a posting about someone running a 205/45 tire on 17x7.5 +45, lowered as well, and there was mention of rubbing. But then that car looked slammed:

The ride has been a little rough. I turns like a dream, but I feel every single bump on the road I think its a combination of the springs and running such a thin tire (205/40). I'll probably opt out for coilovers eventually, and I'm hoping that the ride wont be as harsh...

So, for now it's style over substance...as I'll sacrifice some of the comfort for the look

with all that said, i'm guessing a 17x7 with a +40 will not stick out at all

yea, that's exactly what i was thinking about the bumpier ride due to the larger rim and low profile tires.. that has always been the case whenever i lowered and upgraded rims on my previous cars .

but i agree 110% that we sacrifice some things to achieve happiness. thanks for replying
