Yakima Roof Rack installed!

I just installed my Yakima roof rack this weekend and I had a chance to snap a pic and though you guys might enjoy it. As for the rack itself it fits perfectly and had no problems at all. Although the increased drag with the boards pretty much killed my mileage but that is to be expected.

With the snow board on there reading from gauge was ~30avg mpg. When I used to put the boards inside the car with the seats flat I would get a reading of about 34-36 avg mpg.

Make certain those boards are off the rack if out of sight. Theft is nuts here in Alberta off the rack.

Impressive drop in fuel economy with the boards up top.

Looks real nice in white.

^ ditto that. Even if you have the SKS locks, the rack can still be compromised

I've had my Yakima rack on since November, and I can confirm that it will kill your gas mileage. I used to get between 37 - 40 on the computer without the rack, and with the rack I'm down to 32 at best. So that's +/- 8 MPG difference.

Some of that MPG drop can be blamed on the cold weather too.

Wow, that's a huge drop! I was expecting maybe 2MPG loss. TW - What were you getting before the rack?

Last summer, I saw a GD with 2 kayaks on top. Can't even begin to imagine what her MPG was.

I mostly go up to Big Bear. Been up there quite a few times with the fit already. The ride is pretty nice and fun as long as the road conditions are good. Since the fit has no torque you really have to rev it. I usually shit it to S mode and stay in 3rd on the way up. The rack has no affect going up the mountain since the speeds aren't that fast. You only really feel the difference on the freeway at high speeds. Once you get around 60mph you can feel the drag kicking in. I guess if you mount the boards more towards the rear you could help decrease the drag but I can try that next time I go up.
