I did some searching and could not exactly find an answer to this question. I drove a MT and at 70mph, it was turning 3400 RPM. I heard the Auto turns less RPM on the highway.
Can someone please let me know how many RPM the auto turns at 70mph?
I like the Manual, but I mainly do highway driving, so I figured I can get a little better gas milage with the auto. Also, I figured the paddle shifters would be a little bit fun.

Even with the high RPM at 70-75mph, I'm still able to get 38+ mpg cruising in my MT. Just FYI.

Manual gets better mpg then the auto even with the high rpm's. Throttle position plays a higher role in fuel consumption. Since your higher in the rpm range you have more power, therefore you dont need to push down the accelerator as much just to stay at highway speeds.
I do about 80% highway driving and get anywhere from 36-40mpg, and my car hasnt blown up yet...
In a recent brief highway stint doing 70 in my MT, my FE gauge read 50.6, without trying to conserve fuel. Minus 4 mpg error and that's 46 mpg. Why would anyone complain about this mileage?
I like the relatively short 5th gear for instant highway passing response. Reminds me of my 94 Integra GS-R, which also had five speeds. I had 3 six speeds thereafter and missed the top gear being fifth.

agreed about liking the rpm on the freeway. there's no need to shift to pass
And your getting 31mpg with your auto fit? Waaay lower than what most people get with their 5spd
There are a few reasons for this. First I live about 1 mile from work which is a slow stop and go stint. If you look at my records I get a 26mpg on a 2 week tank of driving to work. Going to my g/fs house I have a mountain to cross which also kills my mpg. All in all I would say its my driving rather than my car getting bad mpg. I guess I just love driving this car so much.
For better FE should I stay in 4th longer instead of shifting to 5th to run low RPMs? I usually try to stay in 5th as much as possible.

I love orange revolution. It was my second choice but I went with tafetta white and don't regret it. Although sometimes I wish I couldve gotten orange. Looks awesome with black accent and dark wheels. Not a girly color at all.

The MT seems kind of "buzzy" at 70mph, with it turning 3400rpm. I do like that at the higher RPM, it responds quickly during passing.
With the paddle shifters, am I correct in assuming that if you are cruising at highway speeds (5th gear) and shift it into manual mode, it will downshift to 4th gear automatically?

IIRC it drops to 3rd gear. I know the revs jump really high when you do it.
my MT gets real hungry when going expressway speeds.
the 195/50/15 tires dont help either. hahaha. wife says
she's getting about 36mpg on the GE8 while keeping the
revs no higher than 2200rpm on the expressway..so just
shy of 70mph. not sure if that's too slow for you guys, but
wife and i arent so despirate to get to the restroom.

I have the 09 MT and in a recent fill-up I traveled on the freeway for a few miles doing 70 mph and my mpg gauge read 50.6 mpg. Trust me, the MTs get good mileage on the highway. I don't really understand the concern of rpms on the highway. Just look at your mileage calculations and that's it. Who cares about the rpms? In fact, I like the more immediate throttle response on the highway due to the shorter 5th gear.
BTW, that same fill up I did about 50% hwy and 50% commuting and while my gauge read 41.7 mpg I manually calculated it to be 38.6 mpg, which is less than the 4mpg gauge error. That's great mileage for 50% hwy cruising at 70 mph and 50% L.A. commuting.
the ATs are rated about 2 mpg higher by EPA (35mpg vs 33mpg), so that means there is a diff in terms of gearing and the slightly thinner tires on the non-sport. I've noticed the gauge's inaccuracy varies too, if I drive gently (gliding a lot), the computer calculates 80+ mpg a lot, and that gets added to the overage average more. On the other hand if I drive more aggressively, it's more accurate to my real calculated mpg. On my base I get about 34-35mpg mix 50/50 city/hwy driving by hand calculations.
