Bad AC Smell

Ever since I bought my new 2008 Jazz (earlier edition) it has been plagued with bad air conditioner smells. Actually when the AC is running there is no smell. However, as soon as the AC is turned off then there is a very strong smell as if something has died in the car. I have experienced AC smells in other cars reminiscent of mold but this is something far worse. I thought the smell would go away after a few months but it hasn't.

Has anyone else experienced this or is it just my car? Is there any solution?

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Kind Regards
Chris

I assume you leave your a/c button on when you turn the car off.

it's condensation mold. buy Ozium and spray it in your vents while the fan is on.

Thank you all for the suggestions.

I turn the AC button off or the fan off to stop the AC before switching the engine off. I really dont understand if there is some kind of valve in the air vents that prevents the filter drying out naturally when the engine is switched off.

Anyway I will get some of the AC ozone type cleaner and have a go and see what happens.

Is it easy to remove the AC filter to give the system a more thorough clean?

Kind Regards
Chris

I usually shut the AC off a few km's from my destination but leave the fan on. This seems to dry everything out before I shut the car off. Despite instruction to do so my wife does not do this, her car (a Subaru) smells and mine does not, which tells me my approach works somewhat.

My AC would smell once in a while. Then I stopped farting in the car. SUCCESS!
