if you look at the gas pedal assembly there's really nothing there that can block the pedal from getting stuck unless there was an obstruction such as your generic non-OE floor mat.

any close up picts of your car? which dealer is your car at?

It happen again! Acceleration went up by itself

After several months without any problem, today I was driving in a parking lot in second gear and suddenly the acceleration went up by itself without touching the gas pedal. Almost to 4500 rpm. My car is five speed transmission, so I put the car in neutral and pushed the gas pedal twice. The rpm went to normal.
This is a very strange and dangerous situation. I'm thinking it could be the computer, or the potentiometer in the gas pedal. The Fit has a gas pedal that work wireless.
I will take the car to the dealer again.
If somebody knows something about this situation. Please let me know.

Thanks

It's without a throttle cable but it's "wired".

Yes the fit has a Drive-by-wire throttle.

Urban Dictionary: drive-by-wire

Sounds to me something is wrong electronically.

Stuck gas pedals are no laughing matter. 4 people just died in Cali because of the same issue.

4 killed in Calif. car crash, passenger calls 911 to say accelerator stuck, car doing 100 mph

yea heard about that, there was a big recall from Toyota for the floor mats. Good thing you knew something about cars to put it in neutral unlike that unfortunate family.

Wouldn't there be a chance to turn off the key before you get to 100. It takes a while to reach that speed.

Towards the end of the story it mentions that the driver was a safety inspector for ambulances and buses and such

knowledge is everything. They didn't know what to do, I heard they had time to call the police though.

4 people and collectively they didn't think of turning it off with the key? Lots of time too. I wonder how fast they were going when it got stuck?

It just doesn't add up to me...

The car they were driving didn't require a key (push button start), and they didn't know the procedure to force it to shutdown since it wasn't their normal car (and pushing the button doesn't seem to work if the car's moving, or some nonsense like that). As an aside, on Toyota/Lexus vehicles, it's hold the button down for something like 3 seconds, while on some other vehicles you have to repeatedly press the button, and who knows what other combinations there are...

Nobody knows why they didn't throw it into neutral though... or try to clear the mat from the accelerator .

in situations like that, is it more safe with an auto tranny or manual?

manual cause you just clutch-in and you're disengaged.

I suppose everyone else except the person who called 911 was panicking and just lost all train of thought...

I drove today to work and nothing happened. Yes it is wired but without a trottle cable. In my case the gas pedal did not move at all. It is nothing to do with the pedal. No floor mats problem.

Cruise?

It's a completely different car, by my old '93 Escort MT did the sudden full throttle thing a few times and I tracked it down to the cruise control. By pulling the vacuum line off the cruise actuator, the problem stopped. I later discovered that my car had an electrical ground problem due to some fatigued wiring in the hatch/hinge area. Bottom line, I think the ground problem would occasionally cause the cruise control to get a signal to speed up the car, even with the cruise shut off.

Like I said, the Escort is way different, regular mechanical throttle cable with cruise actuator cable connected in parallel. But perhpas the cruise control logic on the Fit shouldn't be ruled out as a source of this issue. And even if the car is a Base without cruise, there may be enough of the cruise logic in the car/computer.
