Does Your Auto Transmission Whine?

Hey guys,
New member and first time Honda owners. Got a '09 Sport Auto for the wife a couple weeks ago and she's in love with it! So today as she's pulling into the garage, I notice a slight transmission whine. It's not especially loud but it's there. If I Put the trans in neutral or park it goes away, put it in gear and it whines. Any other Fit owners experience this or know what I'm talking about? Are Honda auto trans' generally a bit noisy? Really hate the idea of going to the dealer, wanted to check here first. Any comments are appreciated.

I have 10k miles on my auto tranny and no whining noises so far. Only whines in reverse which i think is normal for most cars.

Check to see that the tranny fluid is at the correct level, maybe its low? Otherwise take it to the dealer.

No whine for me either. I have 5k on mine and just took a 900 mile road trip. No issues with mine. If I were you I would be checking all the fluid levels.

I'd have to say mine has a "slight whine". Not bad but it caused me enough concern to have the dealer check it out. They listened to it, road tested, checked fluid and said it was operating normally.

No whine from mine. Take it to the dealer. Most likely they'll say it's "normal", but you'll get a note in your service record. Later, if it gets worse, they'll have a hard time denying there is a progressive problem.

I agree. Check your transmission fluid level and take it to the dealer and have them record your complaint.
If it is an issue, you are covered by your warranty.

No noticeable whine on our FiT.

Most automatics whine when backing/reversing. Reverse gearing is unlike forward gearing. If you whine in forward gears, you would probably have torque converter and/or fluid level/quality issues. Doubt you'd have these on a new car, though.... You sure it wasn't the tires?

Even if it has a slight whine, they'll deny it until the issue causes a failure. Manufacturers (even Honda) have gotten good at that in the last couple of years, and they've trained their service manager gatekeepers well in that regard. Hopefully, your dealer service dept. is especially receptive. But, for sure, get it in and get it documented.

Thanks for the comments. "badself" pretty much nailed it. I took the Fit to the dealer today to be checked out. They agreed the torque converter is "a little noisy" but is operating normally at this time. They advised me if the noise worsens to bring it back and they will check it again. Wait and see I guess...

I noticed this annoying whining noise in our Fit - turned out to be my wife

Sorry. To be serious, there is noticeable whine in Reverse only......
