Cool feature--rear wiper

Maybe you all know this, but I just noticed it yesterday after several months of owning my MT Fit Sport.

If the front wipers are on, when you go into reverse the rear wiper turns on automatically to clear the glass, when you go back to 1st it turns off. Not sure how it works on the AT's, probably pretty much the same.

I did it a couple times just to make sure I saw what I thought I saw...and I did.

Another reason to love my car, reason number 50 or so...

Exact same on the A/T.

For how much "smarts" there is, I'm somewhat annoyed that when I stick it in park and the driver's door unlocks, if I then hit the kefob "unlock" only the driver door (only) unlocks again. It should unlock all the doors since it already did mine. Guess the two systems aren't tied into each other.

I'm not sure I understand the problem. Press the remote once to unlock the driver's side door; twice to unlock all doors. I hate doors that lock automatically, so the first thing that I did when I got home from the dealer was to turn that feature off. RTFM.

Jbooth. Just program the locks so they open all the doors when the car in put in Park. There is a string here to do it.

Neat about the rear wiper smarts. Learnt something new today.

Yah, I noticed that on my GE... The only thing is sometime I don't want the rear wiper activated because the grit on the glass will scratch it.

So I'm not a fan of this feature. Unless ofcourse I had the rear wiper turned on to begin with... Then it would be my fault that it was activated.

This is not a great feature for winter driving. You have to make darn sure you scrape the rear window before backing uo or you damaqge the rear wiper. How do I know? Did it in a Rabbit which has the same "feature" and broke off the wiper arm. It was so common a repair that they were back ordered, for weeks.

I'll be damned if I didn't even notice I had a rear wiper. I saw your post the other day and was like damn, another feature of the sport that I don't get.

so i think that wipe once feature on reverse engaugement is exclusive to the sport model. I guess I'll pay more attention in the morning when I pull out (also have a manual).

and hoss10, I think the only liability is yourself, if your trying to drive your car around with the 2 plus feet of snow on it necessary to snap the wiper thats pretty negligent on your part. If your that concerned about it, it wouldn't be hard to pull it and throw a plug on there for waterproofing (or have a body shop fill it)

I don't want all the doors to always unlock. I know I could change it, that's not my beef. My beef is:

1) Park - unlock driver's door
2) Keyfob unlock - unlock driver's door (again)
3) Keyfob unlock - unlock all doors

I'd like the car to skip step two since it is redundant with 1. Yes, I know there's the lock button on the door. Yes I know I could have it unlock all the doors (which doesn't fly with my wife). I'd rather it just do the right thing (consistent behaviour: unlock driver's door if all locked, otherwise unlock all) to start with.

It only happens if your front wipers are on, not all the time.

Well if it won't do what you want then you had better trade cars.

I dunno how much snow it would take, but it doesn't take much ice at all. Ice that may be hard to chip through, so you decide to leave it and let the defroster do the work. I can easily see then flipping on the front wiper, dropping into reverse and...oops!

Something I'll have to keep in mind as winter rolls in!

I thought you always had to make sure to scrape the windows before driving - not to protect the wiper but to keep free vision and avoid running over some poor kid

ICE!!! I don't know where you guys live. But even if you stop for short period of time, and don't free the rear blade (every time you get in the car) it might freeze to the window until the defroster heats up the glass enough. If you back up and the wipers are on...... Very easy to do and I don't have 2 feet of snow on my window!
Not a good design for countries that get winters. Perhaps the Honda's wiper is stronger then the VW and might just burn out the wiper motor instead of breaking the arm.

I stand corrected. I was not thinking about the ice. yes, that is a very valid concern.
(I'm a bit spoiled commuting via the train, my cars rarely see bad weather)

I like this feature, but seriously doubt I'll use it that often. Not much rain in the Mojave.

don't forget, it only works if you turn on the wipers. I don't think you would turn on the wipers if you didnt scrape the window of ice. The back window is like 2 feet wide. If you can't take the two seconds to scrape it off then its your fault if you turn on the wipers and burn out the wiper motor.

Another good design by Honda. I'm in upstate NY and can't wait to drive this thing on a nice show filled road. I always see the light little cars handle awesome in the crap weather.. Its the huge heavy RWD cars that suck out.

I actually thought there was something wrong with my car when this started happening. I looked in the owner's manual and couldn't find anything about this "feature".

I dislike it... wonder if there's a way to disable it?
