Almost got hit...thanks wimpy horn!

So, driving my freshly tinted, 1 week old Fit on the freeway on the way home from picking it up at the tint place. I am in the far right lane, since my off ramp is coming up soon....Lexus next to me starts changing lanes, RIGHT INTO ME!!! I lay on the horn. MEEP! meep! WTF is that lame weak sauce sound coming from my car? That's IT??? The car keeps coming, I move right. The lady driving does not hear a thing, keeps on driving. Mind you...I am right next to her...even with her...looking right at her...she doesn't see or hear a thing. I slowed down and got behind her. She didn't have a clue, and still doesn't.

This horn has got to go. It sucks.

Alex007 is an unknown quantity at this point
The accord horn is a nice upgrade, but I installed a FIAMM "El grande" twin horns, and when I honk, people move the **** out of the way, clothes get ripped right off the ladies, small kids faint out of fear, and old people die of heart attacks.

It works perfectly and I love it.

That's the one thing I don't like about my Fit--the wimpy horn. For some reason, I keep running over coyotes: every time they hear that "Meep Meep" they think it's the roadrunner!

College Hills Honda sells the Accord horn as an accessory. I love their description: "Change out the 'meep, meep' horn..." It costs just over $15 +shipping and they have instructions with video right on their website. I get my accessories for all of my Hondas there.

It's a Stebel Nautilus (also marketed as Wolo "Bad Boy") air horn. Rated at 139db. Tthat's really, really loud, considering that the decibel scale is logarithmic. For comparison, a military jet taking off from an aircraft carrier is rated at about 130db. These horns go for about $35 on Amazon. Installation requires some (minimal) knowledge of electrical circuitry, since it runs off a relay.

great info. thank you. this is on my list. when i drove a 94 accord for a decade, the decal on the left horn button was worn off by the time i sold it. i like a good horn.

Sounds like the lady in the lex should not be driving. Anyway, I use a stabel air horn in my G. It is very loud and has a nice italian tone.

I got mine form Griot's Garage. Btw, if you want the single beep to sound when you lock your doors, you need a hella or any non-air compressed horn. Otherwise you just get a 'click'. . Hahaha

I like the accord horn upgrade, didn't know it was straight up plug and play or I would have ordered it a long time ago.

btw what is the part number for the horn? Kinda would rather buy it locally since CH Honda wants $12 to ship it to TX.

^That's a ****ed up story, right there. I had no idea the GE8 horn was *THAT* wimpy.

Anyone know how the Accord horn compares to the GD3 horn (which is not near as wussy as the GE8)? I love my horn, it sounds like my car's got small car syndrome. I'm curious if the Accord horn would still be more *manly*.

It was an easy install, tapped off the oem wire & ran a ground wire to the radiator frame. Helps a lot with inattentive drivers chatting on their cell phones!!!!

I still get a "beep" when I lock my doors, but it is a different sound than the air horn...perhaps the G8 has a "second" horn for the oem "alarm"??

The Fit has two horns. There is another Meep, Meep horn by the driver's side just for alarm.

Huh, that might be so. Interesting indeed. Usually cars have 2 horns. One for high pitch one for low... Did you remove both when you did the install? (Just wondering cause it sounds like you only took off one... Then it will sound different when you arm your locks).
