engine clicking noise throughout rpm solved - warrantied

Just thought I'd let other fit owners know about my '09 manual fit sport trouble. some over 25,000 miles. When the car was new I was concerned about what the dealer said was injection noise.. fine, it did settle down and didn't bother, but not so long ago, a terrible clicking noise throughout the rpm range. I figured valve adjustment, although it did come on suddenly, but wrong, it was a small broken spring on the rocker arm (what I was told), and that honda was having some trouble with this particular engine, so, complete top rack replaced.. not just the spring or arm causing trouble. They did not replace the cam though.. hopefully that didn't get hammered too much, but seems to be running excellent now and with no noise. Still loving the fit but man those transit connects are getting my looks.

So it was a broken valve spring? If you get an opportunity could you scan that part of the work order and post it? I just want to see how they worded it. Thanks!

Just curious, how loud was the clicking noise? I believe that I have the same noise, but it's so subtle that I don't know what it could be.

It's a clicking noise coming from the engine that seems to come up whenever I'm on the accelerator.

they only time that it was remotely quiet.. was for a few seconds at startup. loud, no question clicking noise. the noise came from the valve cover area.

I just read the repair order: broken lost motion spring (valve spring? I don't know?), damaged rocker arm. replaced rocker bridge, rocker arm, spring. apparently they only did the troublesome cylinder but I was given the impression that all springs/rockers/bridge were replaced and they may have been.

so there's a problem with the fit's engine???

can any GD owners chime in on this? since the GD and GE have the same engines...and the GD usually have higher mileage..maybe they can shine some light on this

somewhere on this bb, there's a link to all the changes in the new engine.
the changes were significant. the article was highly technical and included graphics.

A lot of Honda VTEC engines have "Lost Motion Assemblies", it is a part of the VTEC system on the B-Series engines for example. I'm not sure if it is the same for the L-series engines. It helps support the VTEC rocker when VTEC is not engaged, its basically like a spring/vibration suppression.

Like I said I'm not sure how similar they are on the L-Series engines but I'm surprised Honda is having a problem with them (they've been using them for quite some time now), if you have or learn any more information from the dealership or Honda please post it up.
