Color matching Brake Calipers on GE8

Can I hear some suggestions/input from people out there who have painted/color mated their brake calipers? I'm thinking either black to blend in or red to match my red honda emblems. I'm ordering black brake disks and have black wheels. It was either get red tuner lugs and paint the calipers black or paint the calipers red and get black tuner lugs.

I'm not much into applying fake covers or anything that will make them look more like a big brake kit. I think the wheels need a little accent though. The red emblems pop so well off of the my black fit I figured why not make the brake discs recede into the black wheels and make the calipers pop off the disks and through the wheels.

So... any suggestions on what kind of paint? Should I remover the calipers, paint then and then put them back on? Should I just mask them off and paint them? Will this effect my braking in any way?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I think the black and red contrast will have a good and consistent look to it.

I just masked and painted, unless you really have that much free time on your hands or you really want folks to look that close at them.

I'm not that hard on my brakes and just went with a Kryon heat resistant mix to get the shade I needed. There is a base coat that has been discussed in other similar topic threads, try the search feature.

I beg you, do not paint them red. You are calling attention to an economy car's brakes. If you invest in a big brake kit, then you can paint them red--but even then I would go with black.

What kind of paint did you use? Krylon heat resistant paint was mentioned above, will anything else hold up? How long was it before you could drive the car after your painted the calipers?

Fit 2a T, I've tried doing a search for calipers, brakes, painted brakes, painted calipers, and nothing really comes up.

Goodguy-Fly, I'm sorry my decision hurts you so deeply. Painting them red is merely an aesthetic decision. I need some contrast. It will be fine don't worry. We'll get through this, I promise.

I used Duplicolour. It came as a kit. It included a spray can of cleaner and small brush. I forget how long I let it sit. I had to put two coats on and did not have to wait very long to do the second. I had one small spot peel off. I guess I did not clean it properly. I manage to touch it up without taking wheel off.

Thanks for the info. I will look for it at autozone/advanced this afternoon. If they don't have anything I'll default to lowes or ace.

the duplicolor engine paint at advanced works great. just make sure you clean everything really well first. i did red on my black ek years ago, held up fine. the most important part of ANY paint job is the prep. spend the most time there.

What would be the suggested cleaning method and solvent? Rubbing alcohol with a brush and towels? Some sort of degreaser?

Brake cleaner works great, just have to work quick before it dries.
