Finished my retrofit

Hey everyone, thought I'd post up a few pics of my finished retrofit. I'll work on getting some better pictures soon, these are just from my phone. I used FX35 bi-xenon projectors with Toyota bulbs and ballasts. For the shrouds, I used the tops from solar garden lamps. Also, painted my orange reflector while I was in there. SOOOOO much better than plug and play retro I had before!

that looks really, really good. i've seen dozens of DIY guides on doing it but i'm still not very confident that it'll turn out the way i want. you did a great job.

Great job.

Will it remain both high and low beams or just low beam? What type of bulb are they?

I totally want to do a retrofit with the TL lights...since they have both high and low beams, but i don't have time to do it myself, and i don't think I have the cash to do it either haha. Anyone want to do it for me for cheap?

Both high and lo with these, they are BI-xenon, so they function just like stock (built a relayed harness). They are D2S bulbs, 85122+ I think.

On the black note, I'm not a big fan of black headlights on a black car, and really wanted this to look as OEM as possible. I can always go back and paint later if I want. I pretty much just used the writeup that's in the lighting section for the GD and did the same thing. hid-planet forums are a good resource as well.

Thanks for the compliments!

great job. i'd probably go the same route if I went w/ the retrofit. Looks cleaner w/out the black housing. I am a fan of black housing w/out the retrofit though. BTW: what color did you paint ur reflectors? looks like silver but not too sure.

Got any output pictures? Just for reference here are my FX35 retrofits done by hidillusionz. Good job doing it yourself, its definately not easy!

Retrofit FTW!!!

Wow, FX35 projectors are the best. Look how wide that beam is. You did a good job of aligning them also! How are those high beams? I still havent got pictures of mine. FX35 high beams are crazy.

Not bad, wonder how much you saved by doing it yourself vs. paying hidillusionz to do it.

Not sure how much his costs, but here was my breakdown:
$40 FX35 headlights (complete)
$110 shipped for ballasts and bulbs
$9 solar lamps at Menards
$10 in wiring and relays
=$159 for complete setup.

Granted I got some deals, but I'm sure he charges more than $159 plus core. DIY FTMFW!

That's a steal. The projectors alone usually cost more than $100. Not to mention the wiring harness, and OEM bulbs are pretty pricey. The Retrofit Source (U.S.) - HID Projector Retrofit Kits, Retrofit and HID Componenents, Projectors Lens, Wiring Harnesses, Shrouds and more! sells complete kits ready to be installed if you can do this on your own. All are OEM parts too.

Maybe it's just me, but I can't stop thinking that the picture with the two headlights sitting on the furry blanket looks just like a big grey owl. Ha. ps, the lights are sweet.

Well total including shipping, parts, and labor came out close to $1000. Although it can be done for much cheaper. I think he charges about $250 for the labor itself which includes opening the headlights, installing the parts, painting, and resealing with OEM sealant so you know you wont get condensation. If you buy the kit here: The Retrofit Source (U.S.) - HID Projector Retrofit Kits, Retrofit and HID Componenents, Projectors Lens, Wiring Harnesses, Shrouds and more!

Just ship him your headlights, with that kit, and it should come closer to $800 with shipping and all that. Quality is top notch. Looks OEM. He even mounted the ballasts on to the headlight and waterproofed it. All you have to do is install the lights and plug everything up. I would do it again in a heartbeat. Talk to Rich over at HIDillusionz and tell him I sent you.
