My Fit VS the 1988 Lincoln

I absolutely love my Fit but there is still one thing I preferred with the Lincoln and can't get used to with the Fit. And that is the hood! I can't see it when I am driving and I liked it. When parking the Lincoln, I knew exactly where my front end was but now with the Fit, as soon as I think I am "real close" to a curb or another car and get out....I still had 5' to go!

This is what I am used to! I'm glad to have gotten rid of the Lincoln but the old boat had character that's for sure!

That seems more like a benefit. At least your front end isn't further out than you think when you're parking. :P

He's 15 y/o but he was born with his share of skeletal problems and on this trip (January of this year), he endured 8 hrs of spine surgery and had two 18" Titanium rods screwed into his back.

This takes only a short time to get used to, in normal head-in parking. Don't fret about how close your nose is. That was a concern with your Lincoln because if the nose wasn't in tight enough your ass stuck out. The Fit has no such considerations. Pull in and get close, without inching up and micro managing. When you think you're still too far it's perfect, because the car is shorter and it'll sit in the space just right. You have to let go of the habit of nosing right up. It's not necessary with the Fit, ime.

Now, parallel parking I have not done yet in the Fit. It could be more of a bother not being able to see the nose in that situation. Time will tell.

Curbing is purely driver skill, imo. You should be able to properly curb a car no matter what it is, provided your mirrors are set properly.

Ahh I feel the same about my Fit as well. I went from a 91 Caddy, and i could tell where it ended from the hood ornament to the little points in the tailights. But the Fit can "fit" in some tiny parallel parking spaces which i am totally loving...

Parallel parking is super convenient in the Fit. I'm amazed what I can squeeze into without any trouble. The stubby nose really actually helps there.

I agree...

I actually feel more comfortable parking tail-first. I swapped seats for reclining sport items and they're 1" lower at the hips vs. stock, and I have even more "trouble" judging where the car's nose ends!

I can relate with what other people have said parking nose-first into a slot, getting as close as you can dare, then getting out and realizing there's 6" of air to go
