Honda Fit 1.5l-based Formula F Racing Engine

Always good to see the Fit engine pop up in a spec racing series...

SCCA approves Honda Fit-based engine for Formula F — Autoblog

That should ensure parts availability and possibly some beefed-up parts as well. Nothing like racing to shine a light on any design flaws and initiate part revisions/updates.

Wonder how long it'll be before we start to see parts trickle down to average consumers? (maybe?)

Honda has clearly harnessed wormholes.

Since this is a spec-engine series, I don't think engine modifications are allowed so I don't know if we'll see much aftermarket developement or not. But it does sound like Honda is shopping the engine around for other racing opportunities. Definitely good news.

Interesting how they have to use a restrictor plate to lower performance. I can see this being a boon for cheaper replacement internals but I wouldn't bet on seeing any performance parts come out of it.

biscuitninja is an unknown quantity at this point
They use a restrictor plate to even everybody out.

Plus they use radically different Intake and exhaust. Add to that ZERO parasatic drag (no accessories besides a dry sump) and i'm sure these things will probably pump out very GOOD hp. Not earth shattering, but i can see these little things putting out decent hp.

Its like the Zetec, Duratec and Kent engines. The short block might be near stock, but the head, cam, intake and exhaust REALLY do wake up these things (~140-220hp). I can see a 20-50% jump with just the correct intake alone. Besides most of those old Kent engines were "winning" engine designs with 110whp (from like a 60hp stock engine) from a highly modded engine. These fit engines alone make more power than that.... but far be it for racers to leave anything alone. LOL!

good luck

So you're saying they're allowed to change cams and/or other parts in the head?
Yeah I realized after I posted that the intake and exhaust tracts would be much less restrictive.

Anyway, I'd love to see some cams come out of this. We'd need an ECU reprogramming company (like Hondata) to get on board though so we can tune for the cams.

There are significant implications to us normal fit racers. I can't really talk about it due to an NDA, but there are some interesting things they have done to the engine, and many of the parts will port right over.

The bad news is that most of the parts are small-run, and thus costs are kind of high.

A cam would be good, but the way Honda does these things is they tune the engines, and sell them as a package. There's not really much you can do as an owner, and if memory serves, FF is power-limited.

Anyone who does any kind of sanctioned racing in a honda, should really check out and apply to Honda Racing Line. You get some cool access to HPD.
