ge8 cdv.... gone

so its pretty simple i was fed up wit the cdv so i saw a 1998 civic clutch master cyl at autozone for like 24$ so i bought it... turns out the bolt patern and threads are all the same, i hooked it all up and bled it. works great! pedal is firmer and clutch grips hard but i still need to figure out how to get the pedal right, i think the rod is too long so tomorrow im goin to cut like 7-10 threads off

For those that don't know... cdv is an acronym for Clutch Delay Valve. I don't know why op didn't feel the need to mention that.

So what does a CDV do, and why change it, is there something wrong with the stock one?

the part number is SH5036 this is a sachs's units part number but its all the same. i used one for a 98 civic i figured that was old enough to not have a cdv, the civic rod hits the pedal's arm so i got to cut down the rod to the right length but other then that its pretty easy install just got to be a magician cuz getting this past the brake cyl is almost impossible i took the whole assembly out cuz i knew it would be easier to check all the peices for cdv i installed all the lines before installing the cmc because its impossible to access once bolted on



but the test drive was great, i actually have to push in the clutch not let my foot weight push it in. and no more cdv

got the rods swapped so no need to cut the oem rod is a bit shorter almost a 1/2in pedal feel is still heavier then stock and engaugement is a little lower then halfway up so i like it! i hate pedal release at the top of the pedal. but pretty nice to not have a cdv

can some1 pls take a pic of their clutch pedal adjust bolt and a pic of the cruise control switch on the clutch pedal? i want to see what a factory adjusted clutch looks like so pls only take the pic if u havent adjusted urs?!

Do the rods just unscrew? How do they come out?

one snapring and they come out, i used a tool like a dentist cuz i dont have snap ring plirers

It looks as if the CDV portion of the clutch master cylinder is serviceable. Is it possible to open that up and modify it to remove the CDV function, like you can on some other Honda CDV setups? I've got a bunch of old Honda MCs, but nothing like the one on the GE to play around with.

i was thinking to allow the diafram in the cmc to stay how it would if u were pressing in the clutch it would act like a normal cmc? but for 24 dollars this unit bolted in. no modifications were done to my fit only the cmc

Thanks for the part #. I picked mine up yesterday. Hope to have it installed soon.

The CDV is really a problem for me when Im starting off in first, or shifting from first to second. It must be my driving style.

This is an interesting modification which would definitely solve a mildly annoying problem. Then again, I may have gotten so used to the delay, going back might be annoying.

i posted that cuz there is no need to be a smart ass on here, not saying u i just mean in general, the other fix to this problem is 150$ omni power cmc (clutch master cylinder). i found one that bolts up for 24$ and it works so idk y u got to be mean about it. if u see the title is "ge8 cdv gone" dont get on here lookin for porn. if u dont know what a cdv is u probably dont have a manual. so u dont need to know what it is.

No problem. knew it wasn't directed at me... and yes, I am a smartass... (proud of it at times ) much better than being a dumbass.

The previous phrase I posted is one of my favorites when people ask me why I don't know something. I just say that I know everything... but I just can't remember it all at once .

The nice thing about posting the full name Clutch Delay Valve with CDV (in Parens) is that people learn. Personally, i've learned a lot by reading and looking stuff up but sometimes it's handy to have the Original Post quantify the topic. Also, you don't need to have the manual to be able to know what benefit this could have. It's auto components which often work on commons sense. I've changed a number of sets of rotors/brakes/pads but haven't had the manual for almost any car I've had. Doesn't mean It can't be done (right).
