exhaust or gas smell coming through vents after valve adjustment
#21
That was me not knowing enough about my car and getting had by the stealership:
MAF sensor got fouled by kn oil and some other stuff that attached to the oil...I didnt have MAF sensor cleaner and was stranded....they only offer brake cleaner.
Ended up agreeing to new packs and plugs since they said I would need that in addtion to a sensor. I sent the coil packs to K&N (checked out good) but the plugs were tossed.
Now I keep cleaner in the trunk and an extra sensor in my glove just in case...(traumatized).
now it seems like they finished up by being lazy.....between that and their sales strategy, I'm done with Metro Honda on RT 440 in Jersey City!

I would have a hard time not throwing things if I were you.

Replaced plugs 3 months ago and then this week started smelling gas fumes through vents, went googling and sure enough this thread came up, I was thinking it was a total long shot since I'm normally one to over tighten things but I checked my plugs and sure enough #2 plug was about 1/4 turn loose. I think with this style of plugs you can actually tighten them correctly and still not set the seat on them, I have also read to use anti seize when replacing plugs which I did not when replacing plugs, I used anti seize this time and sure enough you can fill the seat crushing for about one turn before the plug completely goes tight, thanks Fit Freaks, no more fumes!

I recently had the exhaust odor coming in through the vents and having read about the issue here thought it was a loose plug. Turns out that in my case the exhaust manifold/ warm up catalytic converter had a crack in one of the welds.

I had #2 & #3 come loose at 26K miles (2011 Sport AT) and put in a new set of plugs and followed Honda torque specs (had to remove wipers, deck of HVAC under windshield, etc to gain access). They came loose again while #1 & #4 always stayed tight. I reached in on the left side (passenger) with my left arm / hand and took all four out and used blue threadlocker and just tightened by hand (no torque wrench this time) and I haven't had anymore problems and now have 65K miles.
Weird problem.
Weird problem.
