hi my 012 fit currently has 8200 miles and the B1 MM indicator is on with only 15% oil.

When I return for an oil change next week, the service person will ask or recommend me to do the B1MM service which include alot of inspection under thr hood and a tire rotation. Tire rotation i can get somewhere else for $10. Should I just do the oil change there and skip the rest? Honda is going to charge a lot.

I had the B1 done minus the tire change last week. with a Mobil 1 fill-up and inspection as well, The tech referred to it as a B "Minus" 1 service which saved me a bit of money.

total cost for everything was $110 with the Mobil1 and state inspection so it was worth it for me. I'm a bit surprised that the B1 service came up so soon. I'm at just under 40K miles. (But I admit, I don't remember if the B1 has been done before)

Most to all of the inspection items should be pretty minimal in cost. It's all visual inspection of items; no fancy diagnostic equipment. It's a bit more involved than the normal "30 point inspection" that virtually all cars get, but not by much. The goal should be to do the inspections at cost to let the garage find things to do that actually generate a profit. Ie brakes needing replacement.

 

B1 should come up every other oil change.

 

Below are my typical service interval MM mileage ranges. Of course, everyone's numbers will be different based on driving conditions, but the maintenance sequence is the same.

This is interesting as I'm about to hit 16k and I've yet to get one MM. Granted I did get my oil changed around A1 range, but B1 range...the only thing I had done was get my Window visors put on.

 

I had A1 service done at 4000 miles when the MM was at 15%.
The point is alot of ppl tell me that Honda really doesn't do any inspection of those B1 things but CHARGE you for it. Therefore, my question is, should i just have the oil change and reset the MM and rotate the tires somewhere else at around 10k, cause I only have 8200 miles on the car, it's fairly new.

BTW, how much is B1 service include oil change, i just want an idea.

B1 shouldn't be much more than A1. And every dealer is going to charge a different price, there's no set price. But for example
If the garage is already rotating the tires, the car is up in the air with the tire removed. Looking at a piece of rubber and poking it doesn't take much time.

Now admittedly there are a large number of things that each take 30 seconds or so to check. But most garages will always check those things anyway every time someone comes in because its a change to upsell them on brake work.

Basically, ask home much your preferred garage charges and make up your mind from there. It would be early for anything to go wrong, but new york streets aren't very friendly. So yeah, your tie rod ends likely aren't damaged yet, but if they are, it would be really good to catch them before they fail.

 

The other question is do you particularly need to go to the dealer for the service. I'd be a little leery of quick oil change places, but any competent garage can do the work. Just be sure they use the right weight oil if you care about keeping the honda warranty.

The inspection isn't. A failed component probably would be at less than 10k.

 

Just change the oil/filter and rotate the tires. Then do a quick visual inspection of your car, which shouldn't take more than 2 minutes. That's how long it would take the dealership technician to inspect your car too.

Just look for anything that's damaged or needs replacing - cracked lines, torn boots, leaks, worn belt, leaking shocks - anything you can inspect visually. Chances are, there's nothing. A visual inspection is something you can and should be doing once in a while anyway, but there's no need to pay the dealership to literally look at your car's components. When they do a 30 point inspection, they're looking at 30 things. But you can look at 30 things in like 2 minutes haha.

 

To be fair to the dealer, inspecting things like the exhaust heat shields is much easier with a lift.

 

the only thing i do on these modern cars is oil/oil filter change per wrench mark, and air filter/cabin filter change once at 15k.
inspect all fluids for leaks.

since i swap summer/winter wheels once every fall and spring, inspect brakes, suspension.

that's all. if you let the dealer do the work, hell yes they will try to sell you everything including blinker fluid and new muffler bearings.

 

when i go in to honda, I can Just tell them to do the oil change and filter and NOT the other b1 stuffs? cause i just want to pay for the oil/filter now. I will do the b1 inspection when my car reaches 20k. the oil change does cover the 30 point inspection too. I will rotate my tires when it reaches 10k.


ALSO, when i look underneath my car, I don't see the 4 BODY PLUGS that were supposed to be in the car to prevent road noises. Will they give me a run around if i ask for them?

yah, just tell them you want the oil change service nothing else. most dealers can do it without appointment these days.

or just do it on your own. it's real easy on these cars. just a hassle buying the filter and oil and recycling afterwards.

 

Yes, you can tell them not to do everything else other than the oil change. About the Plugs, Tell them that when you looked under the car (when considering doing the oil change yourself of course) you noticed that the four plugs that were supposed to be installed during the "Pre-Delivery Inspection" do not seem to be there.

You should have no issues.

For me, the extra work was negligible in terms of cost and it keeps a few guys that regularly take care of me when I go in for service in jobs. Plus if something does go wrong, it is something that they likely should have caught when it was in the last time. an Independent mechanic doesn't have that kind of responsibility.
