I have a back up plan! My betrothed wants to get a new car so I'm getting my 2nd Gen Fit sales pitch* ready

*lots of nagging

Bummer on the no CVT but, wow, everything else is soooooo nice. I'm glad the grill is still the same as the RS (minus the chrome thingy). Also according from the press release there's some kind of hidden compartment behind the driver's side rear seat. Someone from fitfreak get a pick of that cubbyhole once the auto show is open to the public!

Lightbulb A couple of comments:

1) The North American market model does look a bit strange with the longer bumpers--it almost reminds me of a Peugeot, Citroen or Renault in the same class of vehicle.

2) A HUGE pleasant surprise is the availability of the navigation system/stereo with iPod connectivity, especially since the current model doesn't offer such an accessory of the North American model (though it was available in Japan).

3) I'm a bit disappointed that Honda didn't offer the new CVT for the North American market models (though the 5AT unit should be very good, if experience with current Honda 5AT units are anything to go by). I do hope that Honda offers either a 6AT or CVT automatic soon.

4) Roominess should be better, since Honda redid the interior for more passenger space. The deep well back cargo area found on JDM Fits won't be on the North American model, since that space will be filled with a compact spare tire.

Thumbs up Big thumbs-up

Love it, especially the wheels. I like the JDM RS, but I was hoping that the US version would tone down the "egg-shape". The current Fit is fractionally too small for my tastes. The '09 Fit looks like it could be just right. I was leaning heavily towards a Civic Si for my next Honda; the '09 Fit Sport rockets back into serious contention.

Anyone else think the US version looks a wee bit EP3-ish?

Balance sheet.......

Big +:
dead pedal,
height adjustable driver seat,
telescopic steering wheel,
...........

Big -:
still drums on the rear unlike everywhere else in the world,
no automatic climate control unlike everywhere else in the world,
.............

I could care less about factory nav at even $1K (more likely $2K) when portable nav systems come with more features and options (bluetooth, down loadable maps of Europe,......) and can be carried in your pocket and moved from car to car during vacationing overseas for about $500!

I was just going to post about Autoblog's great galleries. Don't bother reading the comments. Most were positive, but a few were stupid.

Anyway, I do like it, but I love my '07. Tool's post was great. You can see the difference in the profiles by looking at his signature. Did you do that on purpose? The shnoz looks longer, but the windshield rake has been angled back even more, so the front looks even longer.

Now, is the North American version longer just like the first gen (hey, I guess this makes the first gen fit an "F1" a la Corvette C1-C6, and this the "F2") than the rest of the world's, or did Honda design this one to pass worldwide crash standards? I figure they would've saved money if making one version instead of two.

I agree, In fact I just bought a really nice Garmin unit with 4.5" screen (Nuvi 200W) for $200.00 . I don't wanna spend 2 grand for a system when it will be obsolete in a few years.

All the pages that I have seen say that it has disks in the rear on the new model, (RS for sure), and it has larger front disks.

Oh, one more thing. Why did they get rid of the body-colored headlight housings? Chrome housings like every other car on the road is kinda boring. Body colored housings are only shared with Corvettes and Ferraris. It's a nice distinctive touch. Oh well..

I just wanna know how they squeezed out a little more power outa that 1.5L I4. The only difference I know is that the '09s have i-VTEC instead of normal VTEC.

What I do like is the speedometer and the front cupholders by the door hinges. However, I think the HVAC controls look like a quick afterthought.

Oh, and the compartments below the rear seats: AWESOME. Why didn't they think of that earlier? I wonder if the rear bottom portions of the seats could be switched to our '07-'08s.)

The JDM Fit wasn't doing it for me (just looked *too* squished), but the USDM version looks GREAT! I still love my 08, but you gotta hand it to Honda for addressing a lot of little things here and there. The rear headrests reducing blind spots and the fact that you can fold the seats flat without fudging with the lever on the front seats is terrific.

Hope you can buy the Fit Sport w/o nav. That usually adds another $1500 to the price. You're probably talking an $18k Fit Sport w/ nav. Save that and spend a few hundred and get an aftermarket unit with traffic and portability. Audio controls on the wheel is nice... wish we had that now!

Agreed about the auto climate control. And still no center console/armrest?

Supply better be stepped up this time around, too. Good God, was I pissed about the 07 trickle. Chalk up another winner for Honda, though!

Lightbulb A couple of things:

According to Wong KN's article on the Temple of VTEC Asia website:

Honda L-Series SOHC i-VTEC Engines for the new GD Honda Fit/Jazz

The new L15A i-VTEC engine uses the same SOHC i-VTEC valvetrain design used on the R-series engine found on the Honda Civic and JDM Honda Stream. A such, I expect power in the 115-117 bhp (SAE 08/04 net) range when we finally see the specs on the engine.

I believe that the navigation system will be an option on the new model, probably costing about US$1,500 extra. Interestingly, the automatic climate control was never available as an option on the first generation Fit/Jazz sold outside Japan, since that was a pretty expensive option even in Japan (it was the equivalent of US$1,300 the last time I checked). I doubt that the new Honda Jazz model sold elsewhere in the world (probably starting this fall) will get the automatic climate option, either.

I do, however, think Honda should have included a water temperature gauge on the North American market Fit, though--otherwise, I do like the instrument panel on the new model.

Ghibili, I'm with you on the Nav, I hope it's an option and not a forced "must have" type deal.

I gotta see this guy in person to appreciate the front exterior more.
I much prefer the JDM version but again, time will tell.

What's the big stink about climate control?
You don't need it, it's gimmicky at best.
We lived this long without them, why do we suddenly "need" them now, come on guys.

I wonder how much longer this USDM version is in the front, compared to the JDM one.
I think they're trying to reach a little of the Matrix crowd too.

I have read that it has seat hight adjustment, and a telescoping steering column . The Japanese version has a pivoting passenger seat available.
