OBDII readers that work on a 2008 Honda Fit

I know my port works because the dealer just used it. The check engine light came on a couple of days after being in to the dealer. I took It into the local auto parts store to see what the malfunction was, but the clerk was not abe to read my Fit with his device. I bought a Bluetooth reader that was guaranteed to work on all cars imported to the U.S. since the 1990s. It connects with my phone just fine, but it will not read the computer. I have seen from some posts that others are also having thus problem. Is there a OBDII reader for everyday folk that will work on a 2008 Fit. I really need to know because the closest Honda dealer is over 100 miles away and I can't take a whole day off work just to get the engine light checked. Thank you for any advice you can give.
