Question 16x7 +40mm questions

Looking at a set of rims in 16x7 with a 40mm offset, a few threads I have found state that something near 43-45 would be more ideal on a lowered GE to avoid rubbing. Is it possible to just get 5mm spacers and be okay?

Also wondering if I would be able run the factory 185 / 55 R16 83H tires on this the rims, according to tirerack that is the recommended size tire but I see quite a few references to in the forums to 205 etc... Can anyone provide some insight or experiences?

Mitch

yes you can put those tires on there and 16x7 +40 would be good. id throw on the wheels before you decide to run the spacer. you might want it in the rear more than the front

So I shouldn't rub being lowered on T1R springs at that offset? I have found a few threads where people are rubbing with a +40 offset, I guess the only real way to find out is to get the rims and put them on! I was just concerned about what to do if they are rubbing, but if spacers will fix the issue that makes me feel better.

spacers will only make the rubbing worse. if you have a +40 offset and you put 5mm spacers all the way around then you are making the offset +35.

and were they rubbing with 205 tires or stock 185 tires. the 185 will give better clearance than 205 because its not was wide.

Just today I stopped by and spoke to the local Discount Tire guy and this is exactly the set up I'm looking at but my car ISN'T lowered, yet, but its going to be and this is what he told me. Between the rim and offset I'm adding about 1.09" more width to the overall tire/wheel package and IF it rubbed when I lowered the car, I could have the wheel machined down a couple mills. He's had this done for years w/o an issue on his own cars and I trust him, anyone else either done this or know someone who's done and would like to share it with the class

The rims I'm looking at are Drag DR-16's in the light gold with polished lip and another buddy of mine at Discount back home said the issue was with the spokes/lip and he talked to one of his Honda guys and they fitted the Drag DR-31 onto a Fit w/o an issue, but with the same 40mm offset but because those have wheel spokes that go all the way to the outer rims it wasn't a problem, we're not talking about a car with Brembo's here

I'm fairly knowledgeable about this stuff with backspacing and offset but this confuses the hell out of me. It appears that I can do this and get away with it for sure as long as I don't lower the car, but I want the wheelwell gap brought down considerably, but not all the way though and the springs I was looking at are the H&R street springs (1.6" F and 1.3" R), what do you guys think?
