Replacement tires in stock 185/55 R16 83H

I own a 2013 Honda Fit Sport. Should I replace my OEM 185/55 R16 83H Dunlop SP Sports 7000 A/S tires with more Dunlops or is there a better tire available?
I was thinking about
Yokohama AVID Ascend H. Any suggestions? I don't plan to change tire size.

Someone on here posted an awesome article from Tirerack.com where they recomend changing tire sizes from the stock 185/55R16 to 205/50R16 as there are better options for us in that tire size. I personally like the ultra high performance all season...., which gives you a few options. I plan on going this route when the Dunlops wear out.

I believe almost any other tire in the stock size will be a better tire than the stock Dunlops. A lot of people seem to like the Yokohama you mentioned, so I think that would be a solid choice. The Michellin Premier A/S looks really good too, but is a little more expensive. I don't think you could go wrong with either of those.

I replaced the Bridgestone Potenza's at 13,000 miles with Hankook Ventus V2 Concept's (same size as OEM's), smoother and quieter than the OEM's with improved traction in the rain. When I took delivery of my Fit in 2012 I thought all the noise and harsh ride went with the territory...I was wrong, I should have driven straight to my tire guy and gotten rid of the OEM tires before I drove it home.

Thanks Guys

I will probably go with Yokohama AVID Ascend H or Hankook Ventus V2 Concept. I would certainly consider the Michelin Premier A/S. And I will probably NOT go with the OEM Dunlop SP Sports 7000 A/S. (Does anyone like the Dunlops?)
Fortunately I won't have to decide for at least a year (I hope).

Like stated above the Premier A/S ($115.50 each w/ rebate of $70 ) or Kumho Ecsta PA 31 at $73 could be a good choice . This is at Tirerack for the 185/55-16s' . Best of luck and let us know of your decision and results .

I recently purchased the Michelin Premier A/S tires. They ride much smoother and quieter than the stock Dunlop SP Sport 7000 A/S. The only negative that I've found is that my gas mileage has dropped about 8%. I was getting around 37 mpg and now I'm getting 34 mpg. I was a little disappointed with that. Another positive that I've seen is the wet road handling...the Michelins are much better in the rain. I looked at the Yokohama Avids at the same time, but decided to go with the Michelins.

There is a buick dealer here in town (w michigan) who has excellent pricing on tires. I got four hankook ventus v2 concept 2 for $358.00 out the door, plus $100.00 rebate, including a wheel alignment and lifetime balancing, rotation and road hazard. Crazy! And they pick up the car (local only) and drop it back off and wash it, too, all included.

PM me if you are in west michigan and want the service manager (who quotes the tires) name and email or phone.

I had the Hankook V2's and they were good tires as stated earlier, they are quieter then the Dunlops and ride softer due to the sidewalls being very soft. The plus side was better fuel economy too as they are a couple pounds lighter then the Dunlops as well. They were the only tire i was easily been able to hit 40mpg without much effort.

Fuel economy is at its peak when the tires are worn/near worn.

I replaced my OE tires with Yokohama Avid Ascends. They're fine.

As I write this it is almost thanksgiving and in Michigan winter has come a full month early. Worn tires are simply not an option. Stuck four times already.

I think that comment wasn't a suggestion that you drive on worn tires, but rather an observation that you shouldn't expect great fuel economy from brand-new ones.

Red face How does the Hankook V2 do in rain and snow?

Hi Mini_Odyssey,

Can you please tell me how the Hankook V2s handle rain and snow? How do they perform in adverse weather?

Thank you!!

The hankook ventus v2 concept 2 set we bought last year are decent I guess. All I have to compare with are the bald ones. We get through the snow, but it is still not like driving a jeep.

My dad put michelins on his dodge diesel and loves them, he did find they want more pressure than the other tires he's had on the truck puling his 5th wheel.
Maybe bump up a lb or two and check a couple tanks.

I finally bought my Yokohama AVID Ascend tires today, on the last day of the $60 rebate.

Last week I went from the stock 185/55/16 to General Altimax RT43 in 205/50/16. They were a little bit more expensive than the stock size, but I feel they're a softer ride and grip better than the stock Firestones that came with the car. I haven't done a full tank yet, but so far the trip mileage has been on par w/ the stock tires.

There are definitely more options in 205/50/16, and the local shop said they'd have to order the stock size anyways. Hopefully the slightly taller and wider tires will also protect the rims better. The roads here are awful and after hitting a few potholes rims are dinged (not bent) and I've popped one when the sidewall got cut.
