Need recommendation / advice on winter tires

2012 sport mt looking for info about tires.

do i have to get rims and tires same size as summer tires 185/?? 16

what bolt pattern / rim size is the wheels if im going to buy used rims and new tires.
is it safe to run front winter and rear summer?

if i have a set of two wheels that have winters but are 15inch and have my summer on back @ 16inch thats unsafe correct?

any tires you can recommend ?

i apologize for the dumb questions but i have no clue about tires and wheels

you should always run winter tires as a complete set of 4

i have michelin x-ice on my fit and they are great

bolt pattern is 4 x 100 and you can downsize to 15s, they will be cheaper and and the tires will be more narrow (will cut through the snow better)

if you go with 15, the closest tire size is 175/65R15..... i ran this size on Honda steel rims for the last 5 years, recently got new winters on my OEM 16" wheels as I have a new 17" set of summer wheels...

good luck, winter tires make a big difference, especially on this car

The only pain in changing wheels and tires is the TPMS. Either you have to pay to reprogram it when you change wheels (and then do it again in the spring) or as some people do just ignore the light until you switch back in the spring.

I have heard of one person removing the TPMS senders and putting them in a piece of plastic pipe charged with air to around 35 PSI. Then they left the pipe in the trunk/ spare tire area. I have never done it so I'm not sure that this works. I thought TPMS sensors needed motion to turn on. I do not know this for sure.

What are people who have different winter wheels and tires out there doing about TPMS?

All of my vehicles except the Honda Fit are old enough not to have TPMS. We use the same tires year round on the Fit. My rear wheel / 4wd drive Colorado and Blazers all have winter tires on the rear wheels only. These are entirely different vehicles than a front wheel drive Honda Fit.

Canadian Fits such as mine and OP's do not have TPMS.... so no issue there, I've run separate summer and winter wheel sets since new, haven't had to worry about TPMS.

The TPMS in the pressurized tube doesn't work. They do need to be rotating. I live with the TPMS light on during the 3-4 months of snow tire season. Some people put a piece of black tape over the light to block it, but the gauge glass is so prone to scratching, I wouldn't do it. Be aware, a few states will fail your inspection if the light is on.

Thanks for the information. I guess what I was told was wrong. As I stated, I have never tried it myself.

You are lucky. It is a real hassle dealing with it.
